{Aaron and Eloise had a pretty good time at the Summer Challenge Celebration Party at lululemon this evening.}

Summer is officially here and it is already too hot! 🙂 Seattleites are known for complaining about it being too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, and I am no exception. Today was hot, hot and when you have a little one who wants to nurse and snuggle all the time, you just cannot cool off! But, that said, we are embracing summer with open arms and enjoying the next three weeks that we have Papa home!

We had a fun weekend mixed with house projects and visiting friends. I think any weekend that has these two things is the best kind of weekend!

How was your weekend?

SONY DSC

{letter board: Letter Folk // jammies: Burt’s Bees // lunchbox: PackIt // sneakers: See Kai Run (similar)}

It’s hard to believe that it has already been an entire school year since this picture was taken on the first day of school! But then, Eloise grew up so much over the past months.

Eloise has absolutely LOVED school and looked forward to it each Monday and Wednesday morning. She had amazing teachers and friends, and really thrived in the environment. I was worried since she was so little when she started (barely 2) and just potty trained, but after a few tearful drop-offs, we got into a good rhythm and never looked back. To say that Eloise made progress this year emotionally, socially, and academically* is an understatement. We are very excited for Eloise to return to the Birch School in the fall, going 4 mornings a week!

I am not entirely sure Eloise understands what summer vacation means, but we are looking forward to lots of summer adventures both with Papa (who has a few more weeks at home with us) and with Daphne and me. Also, it was “spirit day” at school today and PAJAMAS were the theme, hence why Eloise is wearing jammies. This was probably the best case scenario for Eloise though because if she could stay in her jammies all day, every day, she would (definitely gets that from her Papa and not from her Mama!).

Happy summer vacation Eloise!

M

*There isn’t any academic curriculum, per se, at the Birch School, but Eloise has picked up on “academic” things nonetheless. She is a lover of knowledge with a great memory, so numbers, letters, colors, etc. come at great ease to her even without anything formal.

We are gearing up for the week and so excited because Aaron is on paternity leave! Eloise is still in school (for another three weeks!) so our daily/weekly routine will be similar, but we are hoping to squeeze in some fun summer activities too!

{Yes, my peonies are blooming. Well, two out of three of the plants are!}

We had almost no plans going into the weekend but amazing weather forecasted. I surprised Aaron with 2 hours of weeding (via the Neighborly app) for his birthday which inspired Aaron to be outside all weekend long. I didn’t get many pictures (but I will be sure to soon) but our yard looks AMAZING! The lawn was mowed and edged, the front flower bed next to our driveway was cleaned out (dirt, weeds, and extra plants out, landscape fabric down, bark on top), and the area around our raised bed was all cleaned out. And I spent most of today cleaning the house and doing laundry plus we already got our weekly grocery delivery, so things are pretty spectacular around here as we kick off this coming week! (Also, how is it almost June?)

Things are very exciting around here as we finally (finally) are going to have a stretch of “summer” weather PLUS this is Aaron’s last week of work before he takes the summer off – wahoo! We can’t wait to have Papa home during the week and have all sorts of summer adventures together.

I hope you had an amazing Memorial Day weekend! Also, do you know the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day (and Armed Forces Day)? I didn’t until today.

How was your long weekend?

{Friday brought gorgeous sunny weather so we met Amanda and Elliott at Ella Bailey Park (in Magnolia) for a play date. The views were spectacular!}

{After the park we headed to Serendipity Cafe for some lunch. There is a great little play space for the littles and the food was delish. Thanks for such a fun morning Amanda and Elliott!}

{Daphne sporting her Pagliacci Pizza onesie. If you order a Pagliacci pizza to be delivered to your room in the hospital right after you have a baby, the delivery will include a special onesie! Needless to say we had pizza delivered to the room for dinner.}

{A package from Freshly Picked always makes for a great mail day. I ordered a pair of new sandals for Eloise and I can’t wait for her to wear them!}

{Daphne has been enjoying time in her playmat, and her hand too, and is starting to really roll from side to side. Once she is in her shoulder though she can’t roll back!}

{The sunny and warm weather meant we officially started grilling season! I love not having to cook in the kitchen when it’s hot.}

{Aaron vacuumed out the car which was such a nice surprise, even under the car seats!}

{Eloise was trying on her new summer hat. And since it matches Daphne’s new summer hat, Stella got to wear Daphne’s!}

{Aaron’s brother David was in town for a quick visit, and he and Ben and Sarah came over for dinner and shenanigans on Saturday.}

{Eloise was pretty excited to have Uncle David around. He kept telling her that something was on the ceiling and when she looked up he would tickle under her chin!}

{And Daphne was giving Aunt Sarah so many smiles.}

{And after Eloise went to bed, Ben, Sarah, and David played this hilarious game called Overcooked. I could never play it but it’s so funny to watch!}

{Milk dunk Daphne this morning. And she let me sleep in until 7 after sleeping without a peep all night!}

{Aaron hung some lines for our future peas to climb. All of our little veggie starts are finally  starting to grow!}

{Eloise was teaching Stella how to walk down the stairs like a big kid. And let her borrow her red sandals too. I promise this was safer than it looks!}

{Eloise was helping me with Daphne’s weekly photo shoot by taking some on her camera!}

{Thanks for coming out the visit Uncle David!}

We had a super fun weekend which was only made better by the amazing weather! It feels like we skipped spring and went right into summer. At least for the next few days… it is amazing how much difference the sun makes in our lives.

I finished my first week of the Pure Barre Summer Challenge and only have five more weeks left. I was worried about taking 4 classes per week, but after the second class, I was feeling really good! The evening classes during the week are rough but it’s only for two more weeks until Aaron starts his paternity leave! Yes!

We had a low-key weekend which is pretty much what we needed after hitting the ground running this week. Gearing up for a busy week full of playdates and Pure Barre classes (and praying the rain lets up – seriously PNW!). How was your weekend?

And Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mamas out there!

M

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday! Just a few fun things I wanted to share since both of the girls are napping at the same time – wahoo!

{one} Inchbug Orbit Labels.

{via Inchbug}

Eloise takes a water bottle to pre-school each day and since I don’t have a label maker I stuck a piece of Washi tape with her name written in Sharpie. Not the best method, I know. Then I saw one of these plastic rubbery labels on a friend’s daughter’s water bottle and knew it would perfectly solve my problem! I ordered one purple set for Eloise (she was SO excited that they were purple!) and one teal set for Daphne (for the future). There are four labels in a pack for less than $15. Sold!

{two}

{via Amazon}

We have the Bugaboo Bee stroller (which we LOVE) and decided against getting a double stroller once Daphne was born since it seemed way too burdensome. But I did want an option for Eloise since having her in a stroller is WAY easier! Luckily Bugaboo makes this Wheeled Board that attaches to any Bugaboo stroller. Other stroller systems have similar boards for older siblings, but this is the only one that I know of that also has a seat. It is a game-changer. I can’t tell you how many comments we get on it. Every single time I am out with it. And it is mostly older ladies who are eager to tell their daughters! If you are going to have two young kids – an infant and a toddler – I highly recommend this!

{three} Tea Collection Opera House.

Tea Collection Opera House Dress (Toddler Girls, Little Girls & Big Girls)Tea Collection Opera House Romper Dress (Baby Girls)

{via Nordstrom – dress, romper}

One of my favorite things about having two girls is the idea that I get to dress them alike! Not all the time, but imagining them in matching (or coordinating) outfits makes my heart swoon. We don’t have much from Tea Collection, but while I was perusing Nordstrom for the girls, I ran across this dress and romper from the Opera House collection. Seriously, the cutest!

{four} Walker Family Goods Kickstarter Project.

{via Kickstarter}

One of my old friends from home (we met in middle school!) launched a Kickstarter called Walker Family Goods which is all about easy travelling duffel bags. Lex and her husband Loren have two kiddos and make the most beautiful travel and wedding videos. Definitely go check out this project. I can’t wait to get my duffel later this year. I chose the yellow one but am loving the newly announced blush color which will be released if they hit their stretch goal before the end of the funding campaign.

What are you loving this week?

eloise {thirty-three months}

SONY DSC

{peplum: June and January // leggings: Old Navy (old) // chambray: Carter’s (old)}

{month thirty-three} This kid! How is she almost three?! She definitely has an opinion and is not afraid to tell you, like how she didn’t want to take a picture yesterday in the glider with Leo and thankfully Aaron captured this one of her when we were in Indiana!

Physically Eloise is a pretty big kid, bigger than most of her friends. I suspect she will be a few inches taller than me (hopefully you get longer legs kiddo!) and she has always been bigger than average on the growth charts. She runs everywhere which results in lots of tumbles and falls… She has mastered going up and down the stairs, and will finally be tall enough for her balance bike this spring and summer which I hope she enjoys!

Eloise’s hair is so, so long and very fine. It has grown out in layers and is half-way down her back! Up until recently she has been afraid of getting a haircut, almost to the point where it upsets her, so we have continued to tell her that she doesn’t have to have one and we can wait until she is ready. I am getting my hair cut when we visit Boise in July and she may choose to get it cut then (since she wants to basically do everything that Mama does). She doesn’t like ponytails or pigtails (though we can incentivize her with looking at photos on a phone if we need/want it up) and tolerates a bow clip to keep her bangs back. Most of the time though her hair is down and always in her face!

Potty training is still going well and is actually better after Daphne’s birth, despite warnings from both her pediatrician and my midwife (and a slew of other people) that a new baby would (or could) cause a regression. Eloise is consistently pooping in the potty now (though she still gets an applesauce pouch as a treat for that) and self-initiates almost all the time. We have had a few accidents in the past months, but they are all because we (both Eloise and either Aaron or I) have just lost track of time or she is consumed in playing. We aren’t quite ready to try nighttime training since it requires wake-ups in the middle of the night, but will probably try this summer while Aaron is on paternity leave since I think she is much more ready now (rather than when we tried around Christmastime last year).

Eloise loves being a big sister to Daphne and calls her “my baby.” She is (overly) helpful with everything from giving Daphne her paci to getting me a diaper. There are lots of hugs and kisses too. The first thing Eloise asks about when she wakes up from a nap or in the morning is Baby Daph-A-Nee!

All of the sudden Eloise has engaged in so much imaginative play and it is so fun! She pretends to be: a mama (to Baby Stella from nursing her to going to the grocery store), the mail man/person (she loves our mail man Teddy), to a cook (making lots of coffee and chopping vegetables), to tea party, to a librarian (reading me or her stuffed animals and dolls a story), to being Dr. Lower (with her doctor kit Daphne gave her at the hospital). And most recently she was playing with her cousin Charlotte and they were pretending with this little dog and cat play set at Nana and Papaw’s house as well as playing “bakery” at the playground (Eloise was baking pizza, but her oven was broken!).

Eloise has an amazing memory (as most kids at this age do) and remembers absolutely everything! She will hear something one time and will then remember and tell you like 3 weeks later. And she has also started memorizing books. While she LOVES to have stories and books read to her, she will “read” to herself and flip thru the pages of the book while reciting the parts that she knows. It is crazy that she knows some stories verbatim!

I think one of the most fun things about having a two-and-a-half year old is how much their language is developing and the funny things that they say. And Eloise is such a talker, so communicative, and is so, so funny! So here are some of the things we have been hearing lately:

Eloise LOVES jokes and tells them all the time. Here is one of her original jokes: “A cow walks into a barn and the barn-tender says ‘You forgot your tulips!'” (Based off of Aaron’s joke: “A horse walks into a bar and the bartender says ‘Why the long face?'”

We talk a lot about feelings and emotions, a lot in part to Daniel Tiger. Eloise now says “Grrr! I’m frustrated.”

“Oh gosh!” when something surprises her.

“Dang it!”

“Um, that’s not good.”

“That’s a good idea!”

“You can help me with this. It’s tricky.”

“Can I have more [fill in the blank] darling?”

“I am playing silly.”

Me: “What language are you speaking?” [When she is speaking complete gibberish.] Eloise: “I don’t know.”

Indian-applesauce (for Indianapolis). Though when Aaron said this the other day, she corrected him saying “Papa, it’s Indianapolis!”

When the crayon she was coloring with didn’t work: “Mama, this crayon doesn’t have any more purple in it! My purple has no purple in it! Help!”

And finally, Eloise sings all day long. It is the sweetest! And she is the best at mash-ups (combining songs together). One of her favorites is “Oh my darlin'” which is truly the saddest song ever; have you ever paid attention to the lyrics?

{weight} I would guess 32 or 33 pounds.

{hair} dark (reddish) brown.

{teeth} 20 teeth and molars.

{eyes} dark brown.

{clothes}  2T, 3T and some 4T.

{diapers} POTTY TRAINED! size 2T/3T underwear during the day and honest company size 6 diapers for naptime and at night.

{feeding} during the day, three meals, morning snack, & afternoon snack. cup of milk with every meal.

{likes} school (her friends and teachers), talking walks around the neighborhood, coloring, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, football, yelling, Duplos, digging in the dirt, splashing, counting, chewing on her toothbrush, the mailman, any person outside on the sidewalk, bubbles, sidewalk chalk,  buckles, jumping, watching out the front window (dogs, kids, trucks), books, mama & papa’s cell phone (photos or FaceTime), singing & music, dancing, Sadie, bath time, shoes, mama’s bag, clapping, putting things inside a bag or box, taking lids off of things, talking, helping with anything & everything, when Papa comes home from work, airplanes/trains/buses.

{dislikes} not being included, having something taken away from her, being hungry, getting into the carseat, getting out of the carseat, not being able to do something herself.

{nicknames} Bug, E, Wheezy, E-Lo, Ellie or Elle.

Happy thirty-three months Eloise!

M
