{month seven} Happy Girl! Seriously, she is just so happy. I really just hope that we all can be as happy as Daphne girl, even just once every day.

Daphne LOVES to eat and is now eating three meals per day. She eats so much (I usually just cut her off since she will just keep eating whatever you offer her) and it’s always after she has nursed! In a few months we will switch and do solids before nursing (as she transitions off milk and onto “real” food) but for now, nearly all of her calories still come from breast milk. We are still offering purees (that I defrost before every meal) along with chopped fruit (apple, banana, pear, mango, peach) or roasted veggies (zucchini, broccoli, squash, cauliflower, sweet potato). And while we still have a ton of purees in the freezer, Daphne seems to prefer hand-held food that she can feed herself. Even when we do purees on a spoon, she grabs at the spoon and wants to feed herself! It seems like we are going to be transitioning off of purees a bit earlier than we did with Eloise, but the frozen purees in single (ice cube) servings are super nice when we are on-the-go; I just put a few cubes into these reusable pouches and it is perfect when we are out to dinner.

Nursing sessions these days are pretty short since Daphne is a much more efficient drinker and also because everything, especially Eloise, is such a distraction! Daphne probably spends 50% of the time sitting up or otherwise looking around. Her first nursing session in the morning (usually around 8 am) is always 20 solid minutes, and then she is off to start her day! On a few occasions in the last few weeks we have been out during Daphne’s morning nap, so it has been very short or non-existent, so that second session (right before lunchtime) as been a super quiet one and sometimes Daphne has even fallen asleep! It seems like it has been SO long since Daphne would fall asleep during nursing, and I am trying to hold onto those sweet moments.

Daphne is still on the go and has managed to army crawl even faster than ever! If I set her down on the play mat, she will be off of it and headed to Eloise’s kitchen (across the room) in about 20 seconds. She still isn’t crawling with her knees underneath her yet, but she is surprisingly mobile, going from sitting to her belly to rolling on her side to spinning around (on her belly). It is impressive! She will chase toys down (like her ball rattle or round blocks that roll) and loves to give big sloppy kisses to stuffed animals and dolls. She also really likes books and even though she wants to chew on them, she will sit and listen to a story before bedtime or play time and grab at anything that is brightly colored (she seems to really like red).

I almost hate to bring it up, but it is what everyone who sees us asks (strangers, friends, neighbors): sleep. Daphne, from day one, has been a great sleeper partly because she is a good self-soother. She naps at least twice per day (with a third catnap on days her afternoon nap is early) with one nap being about an hour and the other nap being close to 2 or 2.5 hours; generally her afternoon nap is the longest (especially if her morning nap was short or we were out of the house) but sometimes her morning nap is nice and long (which is glorious on mornings when Eloise is at school). Daphne goes down super easily and without much effort which is mostly out of necessity in the form of a toddler big sister. Sometimes I feel bad that I don’t spend time rocking Daphne before she sleeps, but it is also great that Daphne can go from wide-awake to sleeping completely on her own. She likes to have two pacis, one in her mouth and one in her hand, and she switches them out while she is awake. And she also needs her lovie to snuggle with or to hold in her hand if she is sucking her thumb. I just bought her another identical lovie since I couldn’t find time to wash her original one and figured she is attached to it enough that it probably won’t hurt to have a back-up down the road.

We are still cloth diapering and it seems to work well for us. Eloise’s old bumGenius diapers don’t seem to fit Daphne as well around the legs though, and she tends to leak when she wears those. Frustrating, but it happens. I will try again in a few weeks and see if it works! Until then, we are only using the Grovia ones that we got from a friend. I really like these Grovia ones and they fit Daphne really well! Cloth diapering is a bit more challenging once you start solids, but not terrible. I just roll any solids into the toilet and then wash the diapers like I always did. And because I am flushing away nearly all of the poop, our cloth diaper pail doesn’t smell (as compared to a diaper pail full of poopy disposable diapers night). Plus, did you know you are supposed to flush solids from disposable diapers? Yep, it’s in the instructions! (Crazy, right? Though it makes a lot of sense.)

And finally, Daphne is so chatty! She is making so many sounds these days and is chatting during most of her awake time. Mostly we hear DA, MA, and BA which are the same first sounds we heard from Eloise. Daphne does say “mama” a lot, though I know she isn’t calling me Mama. But when she is upset, it is a very sad “mamamamamama.” Daphne also shrieks with excitement when she is really happy or when she sees Eloise. It’s the cutest.

{weight} I would guess close to 17 pounds.
{hair} blackish brown.
{teeth} two bottom middle teeth.
{eyes} dark grey/brown.
{clothes} 3 to 6 months (pants only), 6 months and 12 months (Carter’s), 6 to 12 months.
{diapers} size 3 {from the honest company}. At home we are doing cloth (bumGenius and Grovia) and disposables when we go out and overnight (and add a cloth cover).
{feeding} nursing every 3 to 4 hours during the day, starting around 8 am. feeding sessions last around 10 to 20 minutes (still both sides). bedtime is between 7:30 and 8 pm with a 6 oz bottle.                                                                                                                         {likes} eating, watching big kids or babies, crawling, spinning on her back and belly, teething rings, chewing on anything, sitting in her highchair, staring at her quilt (from Amanda), rattles, nursing, riding in the car (usually), her big sister Eloise, Sadie, singing, lights, paci, being bounced, sucking on her hands, being tickled, talking (cooing).
{dislikes} having gas, lying down flat right after eating, being hungry or tired, not having a bottle immediately after seeing it.                                                                 {nicknames} Daph, Bug, Snorty, Baby D, Daphne Doo, Daph-a-doo, Love, Lovebug.

And here is Eloise’s seven month update. It’s interesting because in real life I think Eloise and Daphne look so similar at this age, but in these two seven month photos, I don’t think they look as similar!

Happy seven months Daphne!

{week 30} Gah, 30 weeks?! It feels like such a milestone number. And in my brain I keep thinking “Gosh, only 22 weeks until she’s one!” and then I realize that’s nearly as long as she’s been alive!

Just in the past few days Daphne has started sitting really well on her own. I try to put her down on her bum with some toys around, but before she would almost immediately tip over and get to her belly (so she could crawl around). She’s much more interested in sitting up now and can spend quite a bit of time sitting, playing, and staying upright. I don’t think she’s sturdy enough to leave on the hardwood floor without someone within arm’s reach yet, but we are definitely getting there! I remember loving this stage with Eloise because I could sit her down and she would play and stay in the same spot; not so much with Daphne because it is just a matter of time before she gets to her belly and starts rolling and crawling all over!

And much more in the past week Daphne is up on her hands and knees and really rocking back and forth. I know this is a pre-cursor for full-on crawling, which we have been expecting is just around the corner. Daphne also spends a lot of time planking (forearms on the ground but up on her toes) which is impressive and will also help her build strength and coordination for crawling.

Daphne is LOVING solids still and has gobbled up everything we have given her: salmon, beef, broccoli, sweet potato, egg, apple, peach, and the list goes on. We are using the same mentality for food that we did with Eloise which is to expose Daphne to as many flavors and types of food as we can, even though Eloise is much pickier now, she is still a really great eater! I have noticed that Daphne will often make a face (like a yuck face) when she first tries something, even if it’s something she has had before, but it only lasts thru the first bite, and then she happily eats it! This past weekend we introduced scrambled egg which she seemed to enjoy, but more importantly did not seem to have any allergic reaction to. I didn’t suspect that she would have an egg allergy, but we have a lot of baby/toddler friends with egg allergies, so I was on a bit of an alert. I think we need to continue the egg exposure, but for now I am not too worried about it.

Since introducing solids, I have noticed that Daphne is much more left-hand dominant than I expected her to be. When playing, she uses both hands, but when she’s feeding herself, it is almost always with her left hand! (This is sort of making my Mama heart so happy because I always wanted to be left-handed! Don’t even ask me why.) But, she is a right thumb sucker for sure, so maybe she’ll be ambidextrous? Eloise was basically born right-hand dominant (like without question) and I know some kids are as old as grade school before a dominant side or preference is shown, but I have a feeling Daphne may surprise us all and be a little lefty!

And finally this week we have retired her bibs (for a bit) because she just isn’t drooling as much. I suspect that her two first teeth are pretty much in at this point and that the next one(s) aren’t imminent. At least that is what I am hoping because even though she never showed signs that teething was painful, it’s got to be, right? And as much as I love her little bandana bibs, I am thankful for the (slightly) less amount of laundry I have to do, and that I don’t have to remember to put a bib on her when we are running out the door (which is basically always, especially during the week)!

And see an almost identical picture of Eloise here!

Happy 30 weeks Daphne!

{letterboard: Letter Folk (Poet) // hoodie: Childhoods (old; similar) // jeggings: Levi’s (old) // moccasins: Freshly Picked // bib: DIY with Rifle Paper Co. fabric}

{week 29} This week solids have continued to go well and I am still trying to offer them twice per day, at lunch and dinner time after Daphne nurses. We are still doing a mix of purees and BLW foods. So far Daphne has tried: roasted sweet potatoes, watermelon, steamed broccoli, red grapes (quartered), black beans, and apple slices. We also introduced peanuts and didn’t get an allergic reaction which is a relief; it was highly unlikely that either of our girls would have a (pea)nut allergy but you never know. Our pediatrician suggested that we introduce a snack food called Bambas which is made almost entirely of peanuts (think a similar texture to a Cheeto but tastes like peanut butter) rather than trying to introduce straight peanut butter (which was super tricky last time around)!

And also (since I know you have been waiting with baited breath) we finally got poop! After almost 13 days… guys, it was stressful. But Daphne wasn’t showing any signs that she was in pain or that there were any issues, so her doctor really wasn’t worried. That said, I am very sad to have left the (solely) breast milk poop days and move into the real poop days. It’s so stinky. And always makes me re-think our decision to cloth diaper! (Okay, not really, but sort of.)

Since big sister Eloise is in school now and Mama wants/needs to get out of the house to get things done, a few more morning naps are on-the-go. It is hit or miss, but mostly what happens is that Daphne will nap either in the car seat or in the Ergo (or Solly wrap) but it’s for a much shorter time than a nap in her crib would be. And then if she has had an on-the-go morning nap, I really make sure she is home for her afternoon nap (which is pretty easy since Eloise naps at the same time).

Happy 29 weeks Daphne!

daphne {month six}

SONY DSC

{alligator: Jellycat // romper: June & January // bib: DIY with Rifle Paper Co. fabric}

{month six} Six months. Guys, how is my tiny little baby SIX MONTHS old already? In some ways I feel like there’s no way it has already been six months (that’s half of a year!) and in other ways I feel like I have known Daphne my entire life.

Teething machine. Daphne has her two bottom front teeth which came in super fast as compared to Eloise’s teeth which I remember taking forever to actually grow in once they cut thru the gums. But with the amount of drool and gnawing that this kid has and does, I am pretty certain there are more teeth on the way! She has been loving this Lifefactory teething ring and this Nuby teether which creates so much more drool but seem effective.

Along with her excitement about teething rings has come Daphne’s ability to pick things up and put them directly in her mouth. It’s a gift. And a curse. I have been sitting Daphne in her highchair when she is awake during mealtimes and it is awesome to be able to fill the tray with toys and know that she can pick them up and chew on them or throw them on the ground which is generally what ends up happening (and quickly!). I am considering getting this really cool toy that suctions onto a tray and holds different toys, preventing them from falling on the ground.

Daphne has been working so much on her dexterity and finding her hands (not just to chew on!). This has been really sweet to watch her grab for things or use her hands to get what she wants, but has been super helpful too. I have noticed that Daphne can put a paci in her mouth all by her self, whether it is in her car seat or in her crib. If she can get a hold of one, it will surely go into her mouth. Just a few days ago (or maybe last week?) I was watching her on the webcam in the middle of her nap (she was fussing a bit, but I wanted to see if she could self-soothe before I went down to help) and she rolled onto her belly, crawled across the crib (in her sleepsack), grabbed her paci and put it into her mouth. Within a minute she was back asleep. It was amazing! And this is a game changer. Now that she can get her lovie or her paci during a nap she can self-soothe and get herself back to sleep even better! I am super impressed with her newly developed skill because I feel like it was forever before Eloise could find her paci and get it into her mouth during sleeping time!

We have introduced a story at bedtime, though sometimes Daphne isn’t into it because after drinking an entire 7 to 8 ounce bottle in about 5 minutes, she’s ready to pass out. But, she does really like books and loves any page with a big face on it or the color red. I have also noticed while I’ve been reading to her that she follows along with the book and seems to understand reading left to right. I will turn the page and she will look at the left page and then scan to the right. Maybe it’s because that is our instinct when you turn pages from the right side and open to the left (?) but it is really cool. And I suspect we have another book lover in our future!

As I mentioned in last weekend’s post, the first baby gate went up since we officially have a mobile baby! I don’t love baby gates (and am already counting the days, weeks, months before we can take them down) but for my sanity and Daphne’s safety, it is pretty much a requirement. We are doing the same configuration of baby gates that we had with Eloise: one across the doorway between the living room and entryway (right next to the playmat) and another one in the doorway between the upstairs hallway and the entryway (right next to the stairs). This basically allows for the kids (and adults) to move freely around the upstairs and into the bathroom (imperative for Eloise now!) but prevents any mishaps on the stairs. Once the other gate goes up (which has a door) we will have to teach Eloise how to open and close it (which should be interesting!) and that will happen once Daphne is really crawling on her hands and knees. But even though she is still army crawling and scooting around, she is picking up speed quickly. I am amazed how fast she can get from her playmat to the living room rug, normally right under the coffee table.

This girl is happy. So happy. Not 100% of the time, but probably about 90%. Seriously. That’s not to say she doesn’t get sad, because she definitely does generally when she is overtired or hungry. But even when you wouldn’t expect it, like when I have to wake her up from a nap, she’s so smiley and happy. It’s infectious and makes this mama so happy too!

Daphne has also found her voice and is working on sounds. She talks and talks, especially right after she has eaten. Lots of “ma,” “ga,” “ba” sounds. We are also starting to do baby signs as well, just as we did with Eloise. We will probably focus on the same signs since they worked so well before and allowed for almost all of her communication needs: milk, more, all done, please, and thank you. Plus, this time around we have an eager big sister who is more than willing to help teach signs!

And a very exciting update (at least for me) is that Daphne has greatly reduced her nursing times in the past week or so. This girl, just like her big sister, was a s-l-o-w nurser from the get-go. 40 minute nursing sessions were our normal when she was brand-new but we were still doing 30 minute sessions up until last week! And then all of the sudden she seems to be fully satiated after 20 minutes (10 per side) or even less during her last feeding (like 6 or 8 minutes!). It seems crazy that just a few minutes can even make a difference, but I am telling you it is life-changing. Even though I enjoy nursing sessions because they force me to sit and be still, the time adds up thru-out the day and there are still demands on my time and attention (ahem, one very cute but sometimes needy toddler).

Finally, since 6 months is official, we should probably get going on solids and the plan is to start today at dinnertime, after her final nursing session (which falls between 6 and 6:30). Even though we want to focus on BLW like we did with Eloise, we will still use purees in these first months to help introduce flavors (I find that purees are best to introduce different spices and flavor combinations that BLW foods can’t). I went a little crazy with purees and ended up with a lot more than we originally planned, so we have a variety to choose from. I tried to stick to things that were in-season (summer fruits) and we will incorporate squash and potatoes as they come more into season since they are great BLW foods (just roast with butter or oil).

Like I mentioned above, I like purees because they allow you to introduce a lot of different flavors and combinations. Now that we are doing this for the second time, we know now that starting solids is all about introducing flavors, not about getting baby to eat. Last time we didn’t introduce meat until much later, but we decided to offer some meat early on, which is great in theory, but pureeing meat is slightly gross (just my opinion). So, almost nothing is off-limits and we want to introduce a wide breadth of flavors and tastes.

{weight} I would guess close to 17 pounds. I will update if there is a big difference at her check-up next week.
{hair} blackish brown.
{teeth} two bottom middle teeth.
{eyes} dark grey/brown.
{clothes} 3 to 6 months (barely), 6 months and 12 months (Carter’s), 6 to 12 months.
{diapers} size 3 {from the honest company and Babyganics}. At home we are doing cloth (bumGenius and Grovia) and disposables when we go out and overnight (and add a cloth cover).
{feeding} nursing every 3 to 4 hours during the day, starting around 8 am. feeding sessions last around 20 minutes (10 per side). bedtime is at 8 pm with a 6 to 8 oz bottle.{likes} crawling, spinning on her back and belly, teething rings, chewing on anything, sitting in her highchair, staring at her quilt (from Amanda), rattles, nursing, riding in the car (usually), her big sister Eloise, Sadie, singing, lights, paci, being bounced, sucking on her hands, being tickled, talking (cooing).
{dislikes} having gas, lying down flat right after eating, being hungry or tired.            {nicknames} Daph, Bug, Snorty, Baby D, Daphne Doo Daph-a-do, Love, Lovebug.

And here is Eloise’s six month update! These little ones are most definitely sisters. I think they look so similar!

Happy six months Daphne!

our trip to Indiana {2017}

This post about our trip to Indiana has been on my to-do list for an embarrassingly long time (we were there in early May!) but better late than never, right?

We travelled as soon as we got the greenlight from Daphne’s pediatrician who was okay with us flying on an airplane once the first set of vaccines were given (at 8 weeks). So, off we went to the midwest for Baby D’s first trip and our first big outing as a family of four!

We didn’t have any set itinerary and just wanted to make sure we saw as many family members and friends as we could to catch up with and introduce Daphne. It was wonderful to see so many loved ones and we so appreciate people making time for us, coming to impromptu get-togethers, or letting us crash at their homes.

Okay, prepare for a picture over-load!

20170508_231040921_iOS

Lots of people have asked about how the trip went, specifically travelling with the babes, and I have to say that the girls are AMAZING little travelers! Eloise really loves to fly and newborns are the easiest to fly with. The biggest hassle is just the amount of extra stuff you end up bringing with kids, and we really tried to minimize as much as possible. We took Daphne’s infant seat and the stroller (mostly for the airport) as well as the Ergo (for Eloise) and the Solly wrap (for Daphne); I wore Daphne thru airport security and Aaron wore Eloise. Also, pay for TSA Pre-Check. It’s so worth it not to have to hassle with shoes/jackets/etc. off and going thru the metal detector instead of the body scanner (though sometimes that happens and Aaron and I both opt out and get a pat-down instead). We ended up renting a (brand-new) car seat for Eloise and a Rock N Play for Daphne from Hoosier Baby rentals which we picked up at the airport along with our rental car (this was a detail that Aaron worked out with the rental company since we arrived really late at night). And, we also decided to rent an Airbnb house this time around in order to have enough space for everyone. In the past, we haven’t done well sharing a sleeping space with Eloise (she won’t co-sleep well) so we always try to get a separate room/space for her. Plus, it is great to have a full kitchen for breakfast in the morning (and casual dinners in) as well as laundry and a place to hangout on days when we are in for the afternoon nap (we tried to alternate afternoons we were okay with being out for naptime and days we needed to be “home” for naptime).

And one last thing (I promise). Lots of people have been asking about how Charlotte is doing. The short answer (in my opinion) is great! We were able to spend SO much time with her and Cari (almost every day we were in Indiana!) and Charlotte was in such good spirits. If you are interested in her treatments and all of her updates, here is her Facebook page. Thanks for all of the Charlotte support! She is one very loved little girl!

Other than the crazy weather (it poured rain nearly the entire time we were there!) we had a good time!

M

project baby #2 {newborn & post-partum essentials}

This time around I felt so much more prepared for post-partum life with a newborn (though the toddler is throwing a bit of a curveball!), but there are a few new things that I have found especially helpful these first weeks! {See my past newborn and post-partum essentials.}

Milkies Milk Saver - Copy

ONE. Milk Saver. This is something that was shared by a  good mama friend and that I never would have bought or tried without a personal recommendation. You basically stick it into your bra on the opposite side that you are feeding on, and it catches the milk that you would otherwise leak (or let-down) into a nursing pad or bra. It doesn’t seem like much, but especially when I have gone a long time between feeds (like first thing in the morning after going all night) I can get half an ounce to three-quarters just from one side! Then I add this milk to the milk I am pumping, and since we are still only doing a one-and-a-half ounce bottle each evening, it makes a difference. One thing to note is that it’s foremilk (and not hindmilk) so it won’t fill baby up as well, but I would rather Daphne drink it than it all be wasted.

Pumping Bra - Copy (2)

TWO. Pumping Bra. If you are going to pump, you might as well pump both sides (there are some exceptions to this) and it really sucks if you have to hold the pumps onto your breasts (haha, pun intended!). I have used this pumping bra for both girls, and even if you don’t use this exact one, get one if you are planning on pumping at all. These bras make pumping hands-free which is amazing; my first pumping session a few weeks ago I didn’t know where this bra was and it was the longest 15 minutes of my life! Plus, When I am pumping, it is total mama time and I give myself full permission to zone out on Facebook or Instagram.

LilyPadz

THREE. LilyPadz. Nursing pads, especially in these early days and weeks, are super important. I used the reusable Bamboobie ones (and still do at nighttime) but these LilyPadz are a game-changer! They are sticky silicone pads that basically prevent leaks between feedings (unless there is a LOT of milk leaking!). My advice would be to wait a week or two after birth before starting them because your nipples will be super tender and maybe a little raw. Plus, if you are using any type of ointment or cream, these are a no-go.

FOUR. Lactation cookies. There are some foods that are supposed to increase milk supply, a few of them being rolled oats, Brewer’s Yeast, and flaxseed. And it just so happens that if you add these things to a chocolate chip cookie dough, you get chocolate chip cookies that help you lactate! I tend to always have a sweet tooth post-partum so I don’t have any problem eating a few of these thru-out the day! {We call them “Mama’s special milk bars” at our house so that Eloise doesn’t realize that I am actually eating cookies all day long… though I think she might be catching on.}

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups of thick cut oats
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons Brewer’s Yeast

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix flaxseed meal and water; set aside 3 to 5 minutes.

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Stir flaxseed mix into butter mix and add vanilla. Beat until well-blended.

Sift dry ingredients, except oats and chocolate chips. Add butter to dry ingredients. Stir in oats and then chocolate chips.

Drop on parchment paper on baking sheet. Bake 8 to 12 minutes.

*recommendation to eat 4 or more per day!

FIVE. Sleeper gowns. We had a few of these with Eloise, but I don’t remember them being as helpful as they are this time around. I basically mean a nightgown that has snaps or a zipper for easy diaper changes in the middle of the night. It is hard enough to change a newborn’s diaper with any outfit on since you are doing it so frequently, but in the middle of the night (or even a sleep deprived day) a simple in-snap is much-needed.

SIX. Gloves. Also another thing we didn’t use with Eloise. Maybe it is because we started trimming her nails earlier? But, we used gloves on Daphne for the first five weeks since her little nails grew so quickly (and were so sharp!) and the in-hospital pediatrician recommended we don’t trim her nails for the first few weeks since the nails are basically fused to the skin at that point. A lot of newborn tops and outfits have built-in gloves which is super helpful, but I would still recommend picking up a pair!

June and January Booties

SEVEN. June and January booties. Eloise was born in the summer (during our hottest month) so socks weren’t really a thing we worried about until she was quite a bit older. But, since it was still pretty cool in March, I did worry about Daphne’s feet being too cold. I picked up these June and January booties (because they were impossibly cute!) with a clothing order before Daphne was born, and quickly found out these booties were perfect in lieu of socks! They have Velcro and are actually small enough around the ankle to stay on Daphne’s feet (which is the big issue with socks for babies). I ended up ordering another couple of pairs because I was so happy with them and Daphne was wearing them (and still does) every day.

EIGHT. Swaddle blankets. We probably have ten or fifteen swaddle blankets (at least!) that have accumulated from the time Eloise was born. They make great gifts and are actually really useful as a make-shift nursing cover, burp cloth, car seat cover, etc. and, for swaddling! Both of our babies have loved/needed to be swaddled for soothing and sleeping, and even though we use a zipper swaddle at night (we have been using this one with Daphne) we use a blanket a lot during the day which is why they are all over the house! This grey one from Lou Lou & Co is my absolute favorite though because it is super soft, a little stretchy, and makes for a great swaddled baby! I think it may become my go-to baby shower gift.

What were your essentials?

daphne {newborn and family photos}

Happy Friday! I will at some point get back to my standard Friday I’m in Love posts but today I wanted to share Daphne’s newborn photoshoot! {I wanted to wait until I knew which photos we were using for Daphne’s birth announcement before sharing here. Our good (and very talented) friend Brenda designed the announcements – she did Eloise’s too! – and I just sent them to the printer so I hope to have them in the mail by the end of the month or sooner!}

Daphne was almost a week old when these photos were taken, and in lieu of doing a traditional newborn one (like I did with Eloise), I opted for a family shoot that was at our house so that we could get professional photos of our new family of four and I wouldn’t have to leave the house (HUGE bonus since with Eloise I trekked way down south to Tacoma!). And while I do love the look of Eloise’s posed newborn shots, I really am loving the more relaxed (non-staged) feel of our shoot this time around.

A few random notes: Daphne looks so different in some of the pictures here, almost like an entirely different baby (which is totally true with all newborns!); even though the last thing you want to do is drag yourself and your brand-new baby to a photoshoot, you should do it, even if it isn’t a professional and just someone with a nice (not a phone) camera take a few pictures (you will cherish them later!); and (related) if you are ever on the fence about getting professional photos taken (we usually get ours done for Christmas cards each year), do it (it’s expensive, but I have never, ever regretted it!).

If you are in the Seattle area and are looking for a professional photographer (for babies, weddings, etc.) I highly recommend Meg! She was so sweet, and amazingly talented, and I am so IN LOVE with these photos.

{Prepare for photo overload since I definitely could not choose just a few to share! Deciding which ones to have printed is agonizing…}
