friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday!

{one} OXO Sippy Cup.

OXO Tot Twist Lid Straw Cup (7 oz.) - Aqua

{via Amazon}

One and a half years in, I pretty much loathe plastic sippy cups. As much as I have tried, it feels like we have bought and tried them all! Some are good for some things, and not for others, some travel well, some don’t, etc. But, after two of my mama friends in the same week suggested this OXO Sippy Straw Cup I happily picked it up locally and have been pleased ever since. It is slim and easy to throw in my bag or coat pocket (if we go to the park!) because it doesn’t have handles; it doesn’t spill if the straw is twisted in; and it is easy to wash! My only complaint is that the straw can leak if the cup is full and left on its side or upside-down & the straw is out, but since other cups we have leak all. the. time. it doesn’t bother me too much! Plus, it’s $7. I need to pick up a few more!

{two} What RBG Taught Me About Being a Stay-At-Home-Dad.

{via The Atlantic}

I don’t talk about it much, but in another part of my life, I am a real-life lawyer. And while I don’t practice, I am still in awe of the amazing education I received & how much better I am at being a citizen & an advocate than I was beforehand. But I digress. Because of my legal background, I like to follow the happenings of the Supreme Court, though not recently since it has all become a bit of a mess with Congress following Justice Scalia’s death. Again, I digress. This article is a little dated, but it is WONDERFUL and if you haven’t had a chance to read it, you should! Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is my hero & I want her to be yours too!

{three} Prayers and Love for Charlotte Reece.

{via Facebook – Charlotte rockin’ her new hearing aids!}

As some of you know from Facebook, our niece Charlotte has hit a bit of a bump in the road as a routine scan found a spot on her liver. We are waiting for test results to come back, but we would really appreciate all the prayers and love you could spare to be sent her way! Check her Facebook page for more updates. #Charlottewillbeatthis

Welcome back Friday!

{one} Mama & Baby dresses.

{via Brickyard Buffalo}

Brickyard Buffalo is a flashsite & has easily become one of my favorites to peruse! I love all of the guest editors and their fabulous finds. I may or may not have (okay, I totally did!) pick up these matching stripey dresses for me & Eloise. Seriously! I cannot wait. We are going to be #twinning every day until she grows out of it…

{two} A cooking date night.

I LOVE this idea that Emily shared over on Cupcakes & Cashmere a few weeks ago about having a weekly cooking date night. Like many of us (parents, that is) date nights can be hard to come by because the weeks get crazy full & the cost of babysitters (seriously!) & we are all just a little tired. Almost every evening we eat dinner as a family around 6 o’clock because Aaron & I both think it is important to have that family time together around the table, BUT I think we should start our own date night dinner just once per week, even if it is making the same thing for Eloise for dinner & then waiting to eat it. Emily & her husband do a Blue Apron meal – have you tried it yet?

{three} Discovery Playtown.

Gaffney’s Grocery & Post Office

{via Discovery Playtown}

For any of you local (Seattle) mamas, there is a new indoor playground that just opened up in Maple Valley. Okay, so not in Seattle, but it is a pretty quick trip south if you don’t hit commute traffic! Discovery Playtown is a large playtown with different shops & places for kids to act out dramatic play – it looks so cute! We are headed down there soon (maybe next week?) to meet up for a play date with some friends.

Welcome back Friday!

{one} Olivia Palermo + Chelsea28

A fresh approach from Olivia Palermo + Chelsea28.

{via Nordstrom}

If you missed the news on Monday, Olivia Palermo launched a small collection at Nordstrom in collaboration with Chelsea28. While I don’t get to dress up much anymore, I do still LOVE fashion & Olivia is the epitome of chic! Yes, #girlcrush! This entire collection is amazing (well, I am not a huge fan of wide-legged pants, mostly because my legs are SO short, it’s not a good look) but I am eyeing this sweater, this bustier & skirt (shown above together – swoon!), and this shirt. They have all been sitting in my Nordy’s cart all week…

{two} Instagram Account Switching.

Also on Monday, Instagram announced that it you can now add additional Instagram accounts & switch between them, without logging out & back in! This is so, so good. Have you tried it out (if you have more than one Instagram account)?

{three} SolarScreen App.

{via SolarScreen}

It was super sunny here on Monday (ha!) when we were at the park with some friends & all of the mamas were chatting about whether we needed to have sunscreen on the kids. And then one of my friends told us about this awesome app SolarScreen which gives you the UV intensity based on the zip code you are in & also has a built-in sunscreen re-apply reminder – genius! Even though I know the best thing is to have sunscreen on Eloise all day, every day, but seriously, putting sunscreen on a toddler is not easy, like not even close. I know this app will come in handy this spring & summer!

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday!

{one} Madewell Skinny Skinny jeans.

{via Madewell}

So I talked about these jeans in my weekend post {see here} & I have to confess I am totally in LOVE. I am ready to get rid of all of my other skinny jeans (well, all of my jeans since they are all skinny…)! My old beloved Paige jeans (Skyline Skinny) were good, but stretched out within an hour of wearing them, but these Madewell ones don’t stretch & keep their shape! If you need a new pair of jeans, I highly recommend these ones!

{two} teeny tiny bikini.

{via Janie & Jack}

We are headed to the beach in a few months for a family vacation & I am super excited! It means that I will need to get Eloise some summer essentials a few months early which includes a new swimsuit. And after perusing the Janie & Jack site, I am thinking it may include this insanely adorable pineapple bikini!

{three} vintage doorbell.

{via House of Antique Hardware}

When we remodeled the house one of things that was replaced was the doorbell. It was one of those details that we didn’t even bother thinking about & our GC installed a simple plastic doorbell button. Nothing great, but it works. However, when I saw this antique doorbell I knew we were missing out! And even though I hate when the doorbell rings (always when Eloise is sleeping which wakes her up about half the time!) it is still worth the improvement (especially for $12!).

{four} toddler antics.

{Cheers! Yep, that’s a beer cozie on her sippy cup.}

20160204_201526410_iOS

{Just kicking back & reading a magazine.}

Toddlerhood is such a riot & Eloise has been so much fun recently! I don’t want to spoil all of the updates since her monthly update is coming up in just a few days, but I did want to share a little bit (for those of you who need an Eloise fix!).

Welcome back Friday!

{one} faux fur stools.

Faux Fur Vanity Stool Makeover for $35 - I love this!:

{via Less Than Perfect blog}

I am dreaming & scheming about what we can put at the foot of our bed, & I think two faux fur stools may be the winner. BUT they are SO expensive! I think a DIY is in order, like the one linked above – super easy!

{two} kitchen tools for toddlers.

Getting Your Toddler in the Kitchen: The 11 Essential Tools

{via Crib to Table blog}

As Eloise is becoming more & more of a toddler (sob!) she is interested in more of what I do, especially in the kitchen. We already have an IKEA-hack learning tower & I think she is ready to really start doing things in the kitchen to help! (She already wipes up spills, mostly hers, with a wet rag.) Denaye just put out this great list of kitchen essentials for toddlers & it is fantastic! Did/do you have kitchen utensils for your toddlers? (Sidenote: knives scare me a bit so I think we will start with plastic ones first, but the other tools seem great!)

{three} papier mache cakes.

Papier Mache Cakes | Oh Happy Day!

{via Oh Happy Day blog}

Someone’s birthday is just around the corner (I will give you one guess!) & I LOVE birthdays! These papier mache cakes are so much fun, & of course, are by the one & only Jordan over at Oh Happy Day – she is so creative it’s crazy! I really want to make a whole bunch of these little cakes to bring out for every family birthday. Wouldn’t that be so much fun? Yep, in all of my extra time…

You guys, how is it the end of January? It seems like it’s been a blur. Just super busy, even though I didn’t want to be super busy. I am attempting a lot of projects around the house, big ones, including painting all of the walls I have been wanting to paint since we finished the remodel, & getting rid of stuff (I am in total purge mode!). Plus, I have some grand plans that I am hoping to really get going on in the coming months & will definitely share once things really get rolling. It is exciting & I hope you will love it! So happy first 1/12th of 2016!

Welcome back Friday!

{one} Valentine’s Day feature!

{via parents.com}

Remember two years ago when we made this Valentine’s Day announcement?! Crazy how much has happened since then! If you missed it on Instagram, this announcement is being featured over on Parents.com as part of a Valentine’s Day pregnancy announcement round-up (who knew there were such a thing?), so go check it out here!

{two} The Newsroom.

{via HBO}

Per usual, we are late to the game on a TV show… not because of Aaron, but because I protest watching too many shows all at once (any one else?). But with most of our regularly scheduled shows on winter hiatus (& football finally winding down), we started watching The Newsroom & are totally hooked! We flew thru the first season & just started the second. It is a little crazy to see the news headlines from 2011 & 2012 (since the show features real news stories) but it is strangely similar as the show is featuring Presidential campaigns just as we are gearing up for “Who’s Going to Win 2016” in our own lives. If you need a good show to watch (or binge on) I highly, highly recommend this one!

{three} Swankaroo mini backpacks.

stripe NATURAL straps mini

{via Swankaroo}

I think I mentioned in her last monthly post, Eloise LOVES bags. And she doesn’t discriminate; plastic bags, laundry baskets, my handbag, our reusable store bags, as long as it has a handle (preferably) & it can hold something inside, she is into it! So, of course, I have been eyeing Eloise-sized bags & am loving these mini backpacks from Swankaroo! I am planning on getting her some type of backpack before our next family trip, but think it would be useful to have one for every day, like returning library books or carrying her own snacks, etc. Any backpacks you Mamas really like for your kiddos?

{I would get a bag for Eloise for Valentine’s Day, but I picked up this adorable wooden camera that was on Brickyard Buffalo last week for a steal! But don’t tell Eloise!}

{one} Emily Henderson’s Design Mistakes post.

Design Mistakes_Faux No Mo_Shabby Chic

{via Style by Emily Henderson}

I have stated my love for interior stylist Emily Henderson on at least one occasion, probably more. Last week she posted about design mistakes, specifically about things that are “antiqued” or “faux old” & it was amazing! I lean towards mid-century modern (if I had to categorize myself), so many, many trends these days (like country chic) just don’t fit in with my personal design aesthetic. And it’s not to say that having rustic looking furniture or hand-scraped floors is bad, it just isn’t everyone’s style. Emily was definitely speaking to me with her post & I am happy I am not the only one that isn’t feeling the need to have antiqued everything (ahem, Pinterest or even Joanna Gaines, whom I still LOVE & adore even though our styles are so different!).

{two} S’more Rice Krispy Treats.

{via Cupcakes and Cashmere}

Yep, it’s January & I should be getting my work out on (since I haven’t done a single workout this year… ) but I made these S’more Rice Krispy treats this week instead & I am not mad about it. They are awesome, easy, & I would highly recommend you do the same! We don’t have a kitchen torch, so I broiled them & our kitchen smelled like a campfire for a few minutes. It was lovely.

{three} PEPS Luncheon.

PEPS

{via PEPS Annual Benefit Luncheon page}

That’s me & Eloise on the PEPS Luncheon page! One of my very photos of us taken last year at the event. (Look how tiny she was!) So, if you are a local Seattle mama & are looking for some fun in early March (the 8th), join me & Amanda (we are co-hosting a table this year) for the PEPS Luncheon. I promise, you won’t be disappointed! PEPS is an organization that has been more than beneficial to me & Aaron as parents, & we just can’t get enough! Please consider joining me for lunch or making a donation to this crazy-awesome organization!

Welcome back Friday & Happy 2016!

{one} color engineer prints.

Print oversized engineer prints in COLOR! (click through for more)

{via A Beautiful Mess}

One of my goals for this year is to start decorating the house. Since we finished the remodel & had a newborn at the same time, decorating the new space was not a priority. I have deliberately not “decorated for the sake of decorating” & didn’t want to start buying house décor or art or whatever, just to fill the space. So, in this new year I am planning on finally hanging art on the walls! But, art is SO expensive. I am loving this big print idea & can’t wait to incorporate it somewhere in our house (maybe in our entryway?).

{two} a new blog header.

As some of you may have noticed, our blog header changed this week. It is something that I have been meaning to do for a LONG time, along with making other changes to the blog (which will hopefully be done in the coming months!). Honestly, I read all blogs via Feedly {via the app on my phone}, so for most blogs, I never even hit the actual website! But if you do happen to hit our website for updates, here is a fresh new header for you! The picture is from our Christmas card photo shoot & the lettering is by yours truly.

{three} The Martian.

The Martian (2015) Poster

{via IMDB}

We rarely get to see movies in the theater (the last two we saw were Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 thanks to Grammie for babysitting!) & I don’t usually have any idea what is even playing in the theater. But I had heard about The Martian a few weeks ago from someone who told me it was good. And then Aaron & I watched it a few nights ago, & it was SO good! I didn’t have any idea what it was about (really) when we started it but I like Matt Damon (he’s a great actor!) & I was hooked immediately. If you haven’t seen it, do!

{one} salted caramel sauce.

Salted Caramel Sauce

{via Food Network}

We are taking a dessert to a holiday party this weekend & did a test-run last weekend. Aaron made mini cheesecakes & this salted caramel sauce, & it was so SO good! This sauce was pretty easy & amazing. We have it in a mason jar in the fridge & have added it to all sorts of desserts & treats this week!

{two} elephant dollhouse.

{via Anthropologie}

It will probably be a while before Eloise is ready for a dollhouse (if she wants one!) but when I was perusing the Anthro site the other night, I saw this fun & gorgeous wooden dollhouse. Isn’t it so cute? I love that it is so minimal & could to used for so many other things other than just a traditional dollhouse. Plus, I am hoping Eloise shares my love for elephants when she grows up.

{three} Christmas cards!

If you know me, you know I LOVE snail mail, so Christmas cards are like, well, Christmas! We have gotten so many wonderful cards this year & I love seeing everyone’s pictures from the year. I have pinned them up on my tiny corkboard ruler, & also on a ribbon across our dining room chalkboard. And at the end of the month, I will snap a photo of each card & use it as the contact photo for that person in my phone (thanks Pinterest!). Also, I feel like we are just the right age that every Christmas card we open is like a pregnancy spinner – who is having a baby this summer? 🙂

Also, don’t forget to add your DIYs to  our Pinterest Christmas Linky Party! It will be live all month!

{one} being a mother, according to Shonda Rimes.

Even though being a mom is my full-time job, I sort of love this description of a Mom’s role by none other than Shonda Rimes. Being a mama is forever.

{two} loft pom pom hat.

Primary Image of Colorblock Pom Pom Hat

{via Loft}

I am such a sucker for pom poms on hats, & this one is no exception! It is 40% off with the code FIRSTLOOK along with the rest of the site!

{three} Trader Joe’s new products.

Did you know that TJ’s posts about all of its new products on its website? I don’t know about you, but I only shop for certain things at TJ’s (quinoa, snacks & crackers, pesto, olive oil, nuts, almond butter, cornbread, frozen croissants), partly because the selection is limited for what we eat & partly because we aren’t usually happy with the produce. However, when I do go I always check the end cap that is full of new products & always manage to find something I can’t live without trying. Now I will know to check ahead of time because time is so precious when you are shopping with a toddler!
