{two years} TWO years?! It feels like it couldn’t possibly have been two whole years. And at the same time it feels like we have known Daphne for so much longer than two short years!
Daphne refers to herself as ME and it’s the cutest thing. She is very into naming people and talking about them by name, using everyone else’s name except for Daphne, who is ME. She does say “Daphne” sometimes and mostly emphasizes the “NE” part.
She’s still a pretty great eater and will try nearly everything. She goes back and forth about whether she’s a voracious eater or just picks at her food, but generally is pretty happy at meal time. And while cheese is her favorite food ever, she also really loves pickles and calls them PEEK-UPS. It’s basically a requirement to like dill pickles to be a Lower, so she fits right in!
Usually when you call her or ask her to do something, she will listen. But there are times that she runs away and likes to be chased. And then you will find her in a corner somewhere with either her eyes closed tight or her hand over her eyes! She thinks she’s hidden. And, again, it’s the cutest thing ever!
Daphne LOVES books and reads stories and to herself, pointing out all the things in the pictures. She loves the Daniel Tiger books that we have, as well as the Hello Highlights magazines, and I Spy books (the little board ones).
She doesn’t want to be held (generally) going up or down the stairs, but wants to hold your hand. And there is no hurrying her up or down the stairs, she will take her time…
Daphne’s elbow (today) isn’t very swollen though she still can’t straighten it. She is generally happy and it doesn’t seem to bother her at all. She will remind you of her “elbow” when you get her dressed or take a jacket on or off, though. But sometimes it will get bumped and she will cry and hold it which is the saddest thing ever. We see a pediatric rheumatologist on the 13th and hopefully we will get more answers about whether she does have Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) and specifically which type. And from there, we can figure out the best way to treat Daph’s poor elbow
Daphne always, always says “thank you” when you either give her something or do something for her. Her “thank you” sounds like GO. And she will keep saying GO, GO, GO! until you acknowledge her with a “Your Welcome.”
She sings “EIEIO,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and the “ABCs” all the time. It is amazing how well she knows the melodies of the songs, because even though she doesn’t know (or pronounce) all of the words, you totally know which song she is singing. And she wants either “Twinkle Twinkle” or “ABCs” (which she calls “AB”) for cuddles (cuckles) before nap and bed time.
Her second bottom molar is in now which completes the bottom set of molars. She is still working on her top two which you can see under the surface of her gums.
This weekend Mimi and Paga are in to help celebrate. We are going out to a family (and Daphne) favorite for dinner tonight (Din Thai Fung) and also introduce Daphne to ICE CREAM at Molly Moon’s. And then later this weekend we are having a small birthday party with close friends and family.
