And this week’s outtake!

{week 33} So we are just humming along here into January, and it is really starting to hit me that I am in the homestretch of this pregnancy, hence my face in the outtake this week! I have about 6 weeks or so, but the idea that I will technically hit “full term” in 4 weeks is frightening.

The biggest thing this week has been lower back and leg pain on my left side. Starting about a week ago I all-of-the-sudden had pain which I blamed on being on my feet so much (we had just been at the Aquarium) and immediately diagnosed as sciatic pain. I was pretty bad for a few days there and really limping around. It was, well, awful, and I couldn’t bear the thought that these last few weeks would be spent like that! But, I used a heating pad and started sleeping on my left side, and it has gotten so much better. I have to be careful though because just when I thought I was doing so well I went to barre on Sunday afternoon and pushed myself way too hard! I ended up going to see a chiropractor which I haven’t done since well before I was pregnant, and the good news is, the pain isn’t sciatic! It is more than likely referred pain from being pregnant; having this extra weight in my belly is just changing the way my body holds itself. So, I am feeling much better about the pain all around, but know I have to listen to my body and really take the time to slow down.

I am also really happy that I think I am finally over this stinkin’ cold that has been lingering for nearly three weeks. We all got sick right before Christmas (lovely) and it wasn’t really awful, but lots of congestion, sneezing, and coughing which is just so much worse when you are pregnant! I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can make it for the next six weeks without a bug.

Nesting is definitely starting to happen around here which I think I mentioned has taken the form of decluttering! It has been amazing to see all of the things we no longer use or need be taken out of the house. Eloise’s new room was painted this past weekend, so we can finally tackle some of the lingering projects for her new room which include: painting her new bed, hanging her new light fixture, hanging new shelves, rearranging her closet configuration, and mounting the webcam. And we sort of have to get things done with E’s new room before we can make updates to the nursery, so it feels like progress!

And finally, I am trying to be practical (and not being too over-the-top) with things like installing the car seat in the car, packing my hospital bag, and arranging care for Eloise which are all things I was apparently supposed to do (according to my pregnancy app which I check about every 4 weeks) this past week. We already have the car seat though don’t know whether it will fit in the car behind the driver’s seat and also be able to have Aaron fit in the car… And I have started a list of things to go in the hospital bag… And my mom and dad have planned a trip up to Seattle starting a few days before my due date… So, it’s all basically done, right?!

And here’s my 33 week update with Eloise!

Happy 33 weeks!

{week 32} Last week I had a check-up with my midwife and everything looks great! I am measuring slightly small at 31 weeks, but that is pretty much the norm for me. My midwife and I were actually sort of surprised I was measuring that big because it definitely doesn’t look like it! When I lie down on my back, the bump basically disappears! Perhaps I have a larger-than-normal body cavity or maybe really small organs? (Haha!) We got to listen to Baby Foot’s heartbeat and it sounded perfect! Eloise got to hold the Doppler on my belly and she was pretty excited about it. For the rest of the day she talked about hearing the baby’s heartbeat.

My midwife also discovered that Baby Foot is already head-down! Hooray! I am still feeling most of the movement on my right side, so it must be a foot kicking? I haven’t felt any huge movements in my belly like I did once or twice with Eloise, but at this point I think that’s good!

I am still having heartburn, though it is mostly limited to evenings and nighttime and has been slightly alleviated by me sleeping with two pillows at night so I am propped up. Not sure why I didn’t think of that sooner! Maybe because my side of the bed already feels like a fortress with my maternity pillow.

I have had quite a bit of lower back pain though in the past few days which I am hoping will resolve itself. It is shooting down into my hamstring on my left side and is no fun. I tried stretching it out yesterday, but I think that actually made it worse. Since I can’t take anything, I have been trying to take it easy and use a heating pad. Fingers crossed this doesn’t last for another 8 weeks!

Also, we are about 50 days away from my due date, if you can believe it… it seemed like we would never get here, but here we are! I am trying to enjoy these last weeks of my pregnancy (since it is likely my last) and also enjoy the time I have with Eloise, just the two of us. My to-do list, as you can imagine, is a mile long but I am optimistic it will all come together! I have a handful of things left to buy before Baby Foot joins us (though you really don’t need much for the second one, do you?) but most importantly, we are planning on setting up Eloise’s big kid room and the new nursery in the coming three or four weeks. E’s new room needs to be painted (hopefully this coming weekend) and her new dresser will be delivered next week!

Happy 32 weeks!

{week 31} Merry (belated) Christmas to the bump!

This week feels really similar to last week, except I was fighting much more of a cold this past week. Right before Christmas, all three of us were sick. No fun. Especially when I couldn’t take a decongestant or anything. But, I am on the mend and even though this congestion will likely linger (I had pregnancy rhinitis last time around) I am feeling so much better!

As we are now past Christmas and soon to be into the New Year, I am starting to get slightly nervous about how little time we have left with Baby Foot on the inside… I always told myself I had so much time left in the pregnancy and that the holidays were so far away, but here we are at the end of December! Nesting has definitely begun to happen, though it feels a little like last time around in that the nursery space isn’t ready to decorate yet (though I am SO thankful we are not neck-deep in a total house remodel!). My nesting has turned much more into purging than anything else. I tend to do that this time of year anyways with all of the new things coming in from Christmas, but since we are consolidating our office and guest bedroom and we’ve had the luxury of two extra bedrooms for these past two-ish years, it feels extra motivating for this mama to purge!

Baby Foot is still pretty active, though not quite as active as Eloise was. I feel his or her feet (likely) on my right side which is exactly where I felt most of the movement with Eloise – such deja vu! And no kicks in the ribs yet (fingers crossed!) but I am feeling a bit crowded these days.

I see my midwife later today and will update if there is anything big!

And here’s my week 31 with Eloise!

Happy 31 weeks!

{week 30} Happy 7 months! Pregnancy months are really strange though and calculated differently than normal months. Via a pregnancy calendar, I am technically in the last week of month seven – eep!

Things are going well and I am feeling pretty good, I just tire more easily. I am also fighting a little bit of a cold that Eloise brought home, so I think that is contributing. My energy levels are much lower than even a few weeks ago, but that is just the third trimester catching up with me! I am still regularly doing at least one barre class per week which is so good for me physically and mentally. There are a lot of modifications I have to make at this point, but I always feel really great after a workout. If I can, I am going to schedule classes right up to my due date which is what I did with Eloise!

My appetite is still low. Food generally doesn’t sound very good and I could probably just eat cereal until the end of February. Eating anything in a large quantity is getting to be challenging since I feel like I fill up so quickly, so lots of smaller portions and meals thru-out the day. I am also trying to stay as hydrated as I can since I know it helps with swelling, etc., and am working on finding a balance between drinking lots of water and not having to use the bathroom every 15 minutes!

Sleep was a bit illusive a few weeks ago and I was waking up a lot during the night, but the past week has been awesome. I feel like I am actually getting a full night’s sleep which is much-needed since Eloise is as busy as ever during the day.

My heartburn and indigestion are still holding strong every time I eat or drink something, but not horrible. I just have to be careful when it comes to late-night snacking since eating or drinking right before I lie down really exacerbates it!

Also, I just heard that an old friend had her baby this weekend at just 32 weeks (she was one week further along than me) and while the baby is healthy, it makes me so thankful for every extra day I get to be pregnant. As most of you know, I love LOVE being pregnant and am trying to enjoy every minute of this one!

And, finally, I feel like I am starting to nest a bit. We have almost everything for the new nursery, but the space isn’t ready yet. We are waiting on one small project to be completed in Eloise’s new room before we can really start moving things around, and need to figure out when it makes sense to move Eloise into her big kid room. I am thinking mid to late January? Any other mamas out there have to move a toddler from one room to another to make room for a new baby? I would love any tips!

Happy 30 weeks!

project baby #2 {week 29}

{letter board: Letter Folk // tunic: Old Navy (old)}

{week 29} This week has felt like my body is making a change and really transitioning into the last trimester. I still feel pretty good and am loving this bump, but the reality of having a newborn in just 11 weeks-ish is becoming pretty clear.

Strangers are now making comments on my bump, asking when my due date is, or smiling when they see my belly which is always really nice. No weird or nasty comments (yet) but I know that as I get bigger and approach my due date, there are things that people will say that are awkward and strange.

I, sadly, am unable to make it thru the night without getting up to pee. It’s hard to complain since I know a lot of women spend most of their pregnancy up in the middle of the night, but it still stinks. It is usually around 3 or 3:30 am and then getting back to sleep has become a challenge. The past few nights it feels like my sleep has been rest-less and I wake up feeling so tired still! I think this is a good reminder and my body is telling me I need to slow down and go to bed earlier.

Two nights ago I had my first Charlie Horse (cramp) in my leg and it hurt so badly! I don’t remember having them a lot last time around, but even the occasional one is no fun.

I have also lost my appetite. Nothing really sounds good and then when something does, I get full so fast that I have to stop eating and then get hungry like 20 minutes later. It’s probably better for heartburn and indigestion to eat smaller meals/snacks, but I hate feeling like I am just grazing on food all day, especially with Eloise since I don’t want her to get into that habit!

And here’s my 29 week update with Eloise!

Happy 29 weeks!

project baby #2 {week 28}

{letter board: Letter Folk // tunic: Old Navy (old)}

{week 28} Hello Third Trimester! This pregnancy is just flying and there are only 12(ish) weeks left!

Pretty much any time I sit down for any length of time, I start to feel Baby Foot start wiggling around, especially when I lay down to go to bed each night. That is apparently the best time for a dance party. But this week, it feels like Baby Foot is doing flips in my belly! And surprisingly, I almost always feel kicks on my right side which is where Eloise always kicked me too!

I have continued to have really mild heartburn and indigestion but nothing horrible. I can usually just wait it out or take a Tums and it will settle down. The only bummer is that one of the aggravating factors is really cold water which is basically the only type of water I want to drink these days.

And, I passed my glucose test! Hooray. Good thing because this baby is still giving me a sweet tooth!

I also have scheduled my pre-natal appointment and check-in with our doula (the same one we used with Eloise!) for the beginning of February. It seems so crazy that we are beginning to plan the birth of this baby… I should probably be thinking about packing a hospital bag (any tips for the second time around?) and getting the nursery ready!

And here’s my 28 week update with Eloise!

Happy 28 weeks!

project baby #2 {weeks 26 & 27}

I completely forgot to bring our SD card to Boise, so I didn’t have last week’s picture to post, so here’s week 26 & 27!

{week 26} Not a lot to report for the week. Some very mild heartburn has shown up (mostly after dinner) but nothing too terrible. I had some heartburn with Eloise at the end of my pregnancy, so it feels normal.

Since we spent the week in Boise for Thanksgiving, I was without Bertha (aka Gertie) my pregnancy pillow which definitely messed with my sleeping! I didn’t realize how much that pillow helped me sleep until I didn’t have it.

{week 27} Last week of my second trimester. I can’t even believe it. Seriously.

I feel noticeably bigger this week and am definitely growing out of some more of my non-maternity clothes. The good news is that the few maternity clothes I do have are starting to fit quite nicely!

My knuckles are swelling already which happened the last time around. I pretty much can’t wear my wedding band without fearing it will never come off, but my engagement ring still fits (it is sized slightly bigger) at least for now. I also smashed my hand in the car door on our way to the airport this weekend and nearly crushed my left middle finger… and then I couldn’t take any ibuprofen. That stinks.

I saw my midwife yesterday for a check-up and everything is great! My weight gain is slow and steady, and my blood pressure is low (which is great!). She also measured my belly which is measuring at 26, so just a few weeks small, but that is the way I was with Eloise pretty much my entire pregnancy, so nothing to worry about there. It is always nice to have that number so that I can assure people (mostly strangers) that this baby is growing properly, I just don’t have the big belly yet!

We also got to hear Baby Foot’s heartbeat; there is nothing as amazing as hearing that sound and it always makes me tear up! My midwife also was able to find the umbilical cord on the Doppler and it sounds like horse hooves since it is blood traveling both in and out of the cord – super cool!  I also had to take the 1 hour glucose test this morning, you know the one where you have to drink the super surgar-y drink and then have your blood drawn. Fingers crossed I passed and don’t have to do the 3 hour one! We finished up the check-up with a few quick reminders about signs of pre-labor (spotting, consistent contractions, leaking, etc.) which is so crazy to think about. We are getting so close to meeting this baby which, for me, is bittersweet. There is nothing like holding that baby for the first time and then having a squishy and cuddly newborn in your arms, but since this is more than likely my last pregnancy, I do feel emotional about not being pregnant anymore.

And here are my 26 and 27 week updates with Eloise!

Happy (26 and) 27 weeks!

M
