project baby #3 {week 28}

{week 28} Hello Third Trimester!

Also, Eloise was in Idaho last week quarantining with my parents and sent Daphne that sweet note. It says: Hi Daphne. I miss you. From Eloise.

This week was the first time I felt Baby Lower have the hiccups! It was late the other night as I was lying in bed reading and it kept me up for a while longer than I anticipated staying up. But, I remember Eloise had the hiccups every single day of my last trimester (and when she was a newborn) and it’s really sweet. This is also the time of day that Baby is moving a lot, so I am trying to enjoy and remember all of it.

Oh, I finally got to go out and get my hair cut this past weekend, and it was glorious! I haven’t had it cut since last December and thought I would get a cut when I was in Boise either this spring or summer, but since those trips were cancelled, I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get one at all. But then King County opened to Phase 2, which allows for hair cuts, and I was able to find this amazing stylist down in Pioneer Square. I went on Saturday and was the only client in the salon. It was perfect. So, I’m glad I got my one and only hair cut of 2020! (But seriously, this is likely my last one until next year.)

I had my 28 week check-up with my doctor this morning and decided to do my glucose blood draw before my appointment. So after a breakfast of eggs (high protein) I managed to get the glucose drink down in 5 minutes (barely) and headed downtown. I waited in my car in the parking garage for maybe 10 minutes and then headed up to the lab for my blood draw. It’s a requirement for the glucose test that you have your blood drawn 45 to 60 minutes after finishing the drink, and I got in just at the 60 minute mark. Phew! I feel like the glucose test is always a little stressful. You don’t know whether the drink itself is going to make you ill, or you have to take it again because the draw doesn’t happen in the timed window. But all seems went well!

Then I headed right up to my OB’s office (it’s in the same medical building behind the hospital) for my appointment. I hadn’t been to the office since my 16 week check-up, so it felt a little strange. The nice thing is, the doctors are running on time since the office isn’t scheduling as many appointments each day. I was able to meet Dr. Droz, who is my new OB, and she was lovely. We talked a lot about delivery and the differences in care between her OB practice and the midwife practice. I felt good about her and she was happy to answer lots of questions! We talked about what will be happening between now and delivery, and it looks like she will do a 36 week ultrasound to check on the Baby’s measurements (looking for any early signs of shoulder dystocia). I also had my T-Dap booster which is more for that Baby than me (since I have had one each pregnancy and they last 7 to 10 years). I was also surprised by my midwife Sarah as I was leaving the office; we were able to chat for just a minute and it was SO good to see a friendly face. She’s truly the best!

There are still so many unknowns, as with every anticipated delivery, about what is going to happen, but I am hopeful that COVID won’t interfere too much with my delivery. I originally planned for our photographer (who did our first photos and Daphne’s newborn ones) to come to the hospital and do family photos (and of the girls meeting the new baby) but that is basically not a possibility. With current COVID cases increasing, and then cold and flu season this fall, it is very, very unlikely we would be in a Phase that will allow for hospital visitations. I am sad about it, not going to lie, but it also seems like a reasonable sacrifice to make. Instead we hope to have the photographer come to the house, shortly after the baby is born, and have her take newborn and family photos, much like she did with Daphne.

And here’s my weekly update with Eloise and Daphne.

Happy 28 weeks, only 12 more to go!
