project baby #3 {week 26}

{week 26} Last week of my second trimester! I’m not even sure how that’s possible, honestly.

This week I have been feeling pretty good. My belly is definitely a pregnant belly – ha! I wear dresses, almost exclusively, along with the skirt (pictured above) though I sometimes still have issues with wearing clothes that are tighter around my rib cage (or above my belly) with contributing to nausea. BUT, I haven’t been feeling nauseous regularly and found that taking Zofran before breakfast and before dinner basically keeps my nausea at bay. I’ll take it!

I had a slight (minor) accident this week which nearly required a trip to urgent care… luckily our neighbor is a nurse and she was able to help me!

I was making dinner and prepping an avocado. I knew it wasn’t the best knife to use, but I decided to use a paring knife (and a brand new Wusthof one, at that!) to take the pit out of the avocado. And you guessed it, I cut myself when the knife slipped. I put a pretty large and deep cut into the side of my left thumb. Since I am pregnant (my blood volume is about 40% more than normal) it bled like crazy! My first thought was stitches, but I really didn’t want to go to urgent care (or the ER given the time of day) and risk any unnecessary exposure. So Aaron called our neighbor, the nurse, and she was so sweet. We wore masks and sat out on the front steps of the house and she held pressure on my thumb for about 15 minutes to see if she could get it to stop bleeding. Luckily, she did and was able to glue it back together and bandage it, which is basically what any doctor would have done at a clinic. She told me if I was able to get thru the night without it bleeding thru the bandages, I would be okay without stitches. I think I cut some nerve endings since the area right above the cut is totally numb, but it’s healing nicely and isn’t painful to move anymore. Phew! Plus, I couldn’t do the dishes for a few days – bummer – so thanks Aaron for taking one for the team this week.

I had a dermatologist appointment this week as well, and it was so strange to be out of the house. I generally don’t leave the house at all, unless I have an appointment as Aaron does our weekly grocery pick-up and any other small errands, and everything else we need we have delivered. Any-hoo, the most pertinent thing about my derm visit was that my doctor was able to check on the varicose veins I have from this pregnancy (on the back of my right leg, around my knee) and she said everything looks fine. It’s all cosmetic at this point and she isn’t worried about a blood clot (which is the big concern). We are both hopeful that they will clear up on their own after this pregnancy, which is what happened after I got them in the same spot during my pregnancy with Daphne. If I stand on a really hard surface for too long, like the marble tile in our bathroom or in our kitchen without a mat – we have this one from Little Nomad which we LOVE at our kitchen sink and I am thinking about getting another for in front of the stove – my leg where the varicose veins are starts to ache a bit. So, I just have to take time to get off my feet and put them up!

{Side note: if you live in the Seattle area and need a good dermatologist, look into Modern Dermatology which is in the South Lake Union neighborhood. I just switched this year to Dr. Roman who I really, really liked and would recommend! I am really good about seeing a derm every year for a mole and skin check – I am high risk because of all of my moles – but didn’t love my old derm’s office which felt too much like a medi-spa where every single person was Botoxed and plumped!}

Okay, and finally, I had to be sure to share my new-found love for Dwell & Slumber, specifically the Cocoon gown. A few mama friends have raved about them over the years, but they aren’t super cheap. But, I wanted something comfortable and easy-to-wear that would help me feel a little put-together right after the baby is born, so I bought the Chambray Cocoon gown. I got the Cocoon gown, rather than the Caftan, because this gown is super drapey and I didn’t want to get lost in all of that fabric. While drapey and loose is not my usual go-to for pregnancy, I have been obsessed with this dress because it is SO COMFY, even though I feel like it makes me look WAY more pregnant that I actually am. Ha! The material is amazing and feels like my favorite swaddle blankets from Lou Lou and Company. It will easily fit for the rest of my pregnancy, has front snaps – making it nursing friendly, has pockets (!), and isn’t super clingy – making it nice for post-partum healing. I actually think it would be a super cute “house dress” or swim cover-up too!

And here’s my weekly update with Eloise and Daphne!

Happy 26 weeks!
