{twelve months // one year} Fitz, you are one year old (yesterday) and I just can’t believe it. It doesn’t feel like it’s possible that it’s been an entire year since you’ve joined our family, yet, I can’t remember life before you.

Also, how does he look so old? Even his pediatrician commented that he looks so much older than 12 months… I think it’s the teeth. And his full command on standing and walking. He’s so sturdy now, it’s unbelievable!

So, not to throw anyone under the bus about why this one year post is one day late, but Fitzgerald was SUPER clingy and grumpy yesterday. Like I couldn’t put him down to do a single thing, except when Aaron was available between meetings to hold him. It seems like Fitz has his first little cold – a congested nose and some sneezing – which has completely freaked me out! Luckily we saw his doctor this morning for his normal wellness check-up, and I was able to ask the million questions I had (like when and if we test for COVID). The girls both started school a few weeks ago and the respiratory illnesses are already starting their rounds; we think one of them brought a cold home and my anxiety is so high!

I forgot to mention a few weeks ago that Fitz (finally) got in to see the pediatric allergist. Even though the doctor rounds at our ped clinic, his waiting list is intense. But the appointment went really well and Fitz was tested for egg with a prick on his back; if he would have been allergic, more than likely he would have developed a welt at the site. BUT, he didn’t, so we really got the all-clear! So we have been trying to introduce eggs slowly again, starting with eggs baked into things (like a muffin or pancakes) and now that we have a mostly functioning kitchen, I am working on baking some things for him. Fingers crossed that’s the last we have to worry about food allergies.

We will be transitioning, starting today, to cow’s milk from formula. The doctor basically told us we could do a quick transition, so we are mixing the last of his formula with cow’s milk. And then it’s full cow’s milk! We are so ready to be done with bottles and formula – the making of the formula and the handwashing of the bottles and nipples. So as much as I am sad that Fitz isn’t a baby anymore (the last one is the hardest, I think!) we are SO ready to be done with the bottles and the drying rack and all of that. Our goal is a full open-cup by 18 months, so I am going to get him some sippy cups to teach him how to tilt a cup. I have a few different types of cups (sippy and straw) that I’ve tried to slowly introduce, but the novelty of the cups (versus his bottle) is SO distracting for him! Wish us luck on the transition.

Now that he’s really mastered walking, Fitz has taken to climbing. Onto everything. He regularly sits on the coffee table or the spinning chair in our living room. If the girls forget to push in their chairs at the dining table, Fitz can use the foot rests and seats to climb up the chairs (and then stand on the top of the chair -oof!). So he got a Pickler triangle with a slide (thanks Mimi + Paga) for his birthday so that he can spend the rest of the fall and winter climbing in our living room. We have the slide set up low for him (though the girls move it up high to play when Fitz is napping) and I’ve taught him to say “WHEE!” when he goes down the slide. So now when he wants to slide, he says “WHEE!” and it’s the best thing ever.
