Baby Shower En Blanc for the Andersons

About a month ago, we were honored to throw the Andersons a baby shower for their little one Austin {who joined the world on just a few weeks ago}! I offered to throw Jess a shower last fall, not totally realizing how much more work it would be to host a party with a brand-new baby, but I did all of the planning before Daphne was born and it worked out pretty well!

Jess had requested an “En Blanc” party, so the theme was super easy: white. I pinned lots of different things, but wanted to keep things simple, both décor and food. Most of the décor I got from Etsy, but everything is linked below for those who have asked. There were tons of babies and it was so wonderful to see so many friends.

project baby {car seat cover}

{be sure to check out amanda’s car seat cover too!}

there are a few craft projects that I wanted to finish for baby lower before his or her arrival, especially since I am not able to set up the nursery space yet {its like my own kind of nesting!}. I didn’t want to take on anything too big, but a car seat cover seemed do-able.

amanda & I chatted a bit about this project this tutorial of a car seat cover complete with a peek-a-boo window. at first I was worried about the extra step of adding the window {since I am definitely a beginning sewer} but after reading thru the instructions a few times, I decided to go for it! {side note: this is the first time I have ever had to top-stitch & it went better than I thought it would!}

Car Seat Canopy

{peek-a-boo car seat canopy}

  • 1 1/3 yard front fabric – I used this cloud fabric from PlayTimeFabrics on Etsy
  • 1 1/3 yard back fabric – I used a similar fabric to this circle dot fabric from JoAnn
  • 4 inches of sew-on Velcro
  • medium bowl (to make the rounded corners)
  • ruler, measuring tape, scissors, matching thread (I used white for this entire project)

I followed the instructions pretty much exactly, & apparently don’t have any of my in progress photos… I know I took them, but I cannot find them for the life of me! darn that pregnancy brain! so here are some final photos. our car seat is en route, so just imagine it draped over a car seat!

{the front with the flap & the straps // close up of the flap}

{the inside of the flap & the peek-a-boo window // the inside of the cover}

I am really happy with how this cover turned out – it will be perfect to keep baby lower out of the sun & also to keep any germy hands out of the car seat! plus since its just two pieces of cotton fabric, it is really light for the late summer & early fall months. the fabric selection was a bit of a challenge for me at first since I wanted to keep it neutral without being boring & this cloud fabric was exactly what I needed!

mamas out there – did you use a car seat cover?

project baby {boise baby sprinkle}

{happy fourth of july!}

as I mentioned in this week’s bump update, my friends jen & beth threw me a baby sprinkle {a shower with a sprinkle theme} last weekend while we were in boise. they did an amazing job {especially considering they have a 3 week old & a 12 week old, respectively} & it was such a perfect way to celebrate baby lower with old friends & family. everyone that was there I have known for at least 10 years so it was really special to celebrate with this group of ladies. thank you so much jen & beth for the sprinkle!

there were lots of yummy desserts – all with sprinkles! – a fantastic drink bar – with lemonade, my fav – peonies, & these gorgeous paper garlands! plus, there were lots of mamas & daughters which makes me so happy.

project baby {seattle baby shower}

as I had mentioned in this week’s bump post, amanda threw me a beautiful & lovely baby shower this past weekend. it was likely a bit of a challenge since it was gender neutral, but it was so, so perfect! every detail was thought of & executed to perfection. thank you amanda – such a fantastic way to celebrate baby lower with a fabulous group of women!

the spread was perfect – snacks & dessert {french macarons & cupcakes – my fav!} & I adored those hanging balloons. & the very sweetest thing was the guest book: everyone’s thumbprints on the cutest print from where the wild things are. this is the first art piece for the nursery!
