{week 21} I am feeling SO much better this week. Plus, I got to see Baby Lower in my 20 week ultrasound this morning. Such a good week!
After a pretty bad week last week, I decided to go back on my meds and am feeling like a totally different person! It is truly amazing. I don’t have quite as much energy (and managed a 2 hour nap yesterday) but seriously, no complaints!
I am definitely feeling pregnant these days and I think we are at the point where there’s no mistaking my pregnant belly. So I’m finally thru the awkward phase! I realized last weekend (when it was pretty hot here) that I don’t have a ton of hot weather clothes that I can wear, so I went ahead and ordered a tank maternity dress from H&M. I really want to buy things that won’t be so short-term, but I tend to like close-fitting dresses when I am pregnant, but looser-fitting dresses when I am post-partum. So, it’s a little tricky.
This morning I went in for my ultrasound. It’s so strange to be out and about, but it was especially weird to be headed to such a big appointment without Aaron. He could have joined me as far as the waiting room, but there are no visitors permitted during the ultrasound. Luckily, the ultrasound tech was really sweet and very friendly, so I didn’t cry the entire appointment! (That was my fear, truly.) We chatted and got to see lots of Baby Lower, and these days, you get all of the images and videos emailed to you, so Aaron got to see the baby when I got home. As far as we can tell (and have been told) everything looks great with Baby Lower who is measuring pretty much right on track for size (in the 56%) and weighing in at about 1 pound.
{Hello Baby Lower!}
Like with the other two, I thought it would be fun to do some gender predicting with some old wive’s tales to see where we are with Baby Lower:
{heart rate} if the baby’s heart rate is above 140 beats per minute, it’s a girl; if it’s under, it’s a boy. GIRL– the baby’s heart rate was at 157 bpm.
{ring on a string} if the ring swings in a strong circular motion, it’s a girl; if it moves in a to-and-fro motion like a pendulum, it’s a boy. GIRL– small circular motions!
{cravings} sweet – it’s a girl; savory – it’s a boy. GIRL – craving anything sweet (though I had a few savory cravings in my first trimester)!
{acne} more acne – it’s a girl; no acne – it’s a boy. BOY – I have the smallest breakout on my chest, but my skin has been clear other than that.
{dreams about baby} INCONCLUSIVE – I have only had one dream about the baby and being pregnant.
{chinese lunar calendar} based on the mother’s birthday & month of conception. BOY
{the mayan tale} the mayans take the mother’s age at conception and the year of conception and add them together. if the result is an even number, it’s a girl; if it’s odd, it’s a boy. BOY – odd number.
{midwife’s test} my previous midwife Desiree (who helped delivery Eloise) said that if leg hair growth increases, it’s a boy, and if it decreases or stays the same, it’s a girl. GIRL (same as both the others!)
So, based on these random predictions, the odds are 50/50 with Baby Lower. Honestly, I go back and forth. I was pretty certain with both of my other pregnancies that the babies were girls. But this pregnancy feels SO different than the other two!
Do you think Baby Lower is a boy or a girl?
And here are Eloise and Daphne‘s 21 week updates!
Happy 21 weeks!
