{month sixteen} Fitzgerald just fresh out of the bath! And barely fitting into 18 month jammies over that tummy!
I updated Fitz’s stats down below since he had his wellness check a few weeks ago (but after his last month’s post). Spoiler alert: he’s in the 90th percentile for weight, height, and head size! Plus he had to have 3 shots. He wasn’t too keen on that part but didn’t seem to be effected at all!
Fitz’s favorite animal (besides a dog which he LOVES to see them in person when we are walking outside!) is a horse. When he sees a picture, he points and says “na” and shakes his head!
We now have a full arm wave to say good-bye. And he often misses the window for waving and saying good-bye by about 2 minutes. So after the person is already gone, Fitz will start waving and saying “bye bye”!
A few days after Fitz’s last check-up, we bit the bullet and ditched his final (bedtime) bottle. For two-ish evenings we gave him cold milk in his bottle (rather than warming the milk up) and then switched to cold milk in his sippy cup. Sleeping went fine and basically the same, so all good on that front! And now we offer him a sippy cup of milk upstairs to finish after dinner time but before we head down for bedtime. Eventually we will merge that milk with his dinner, but we aren’t too worried about that now.
At mealtimes, just this past week, we introduced a (real) plate for Fitz to eat his meals. He has already been at the table in his high chair (without a tray) for some time now since I got tired of washing the tray all the time. We used to load up a small plate for him with his food, but then transfer smaller portions into his silicone bowl/plate (we LOVE the ezpz brand). But he’s done really great with the plate and doesn’t really get distracted by it until he’s close to being done with food. And then he wants to pick up the plate and either dump any remaining food out or lick the plate. It’s super fun. So I just take the plate away once he starts to pick it up!
If Fitz hasn’t seen someone in a while (even a few minutes) or if you walk into the room that he is in, he will come up to you and wave with both hands (or arms) and say “hi” (which sounds like HA). It’s really the best.
Signing is still going well. Fitz signs (and says) “more” as well as “all done.” He most recently started saying “thank you” by blowing a kiss (which is similar to the sign). Also, the best! Fitz is also super into shaking his head “no”!
This kid is a freaking beast. He can very nearly climb up on top of the kitchen counters without a stool. We have a shallow (Shaker) molding at the base of the kitchen island which is just deep enough for Fitz to step up on to give himself a boost. Then he holds on with his hands to the edges of the counter and pulls himself up so that he can see what’s happening on top of the counters. And now he’s strong enough to hold onto the counter with just one hand so that he can swipe or grab at whatever is in reach on the counter. Oh vey! Now we have to be really careful about leaving anything within 8 inches or so of the edge of the countertop on the island (and within about 6 inches of any other countertop edge). We also had to install some child-proof locks on some of our lower kitchen drawers. This is something totally new for us as we never had issues with the girls trying to get into kitchen cabinets that weren’t safe (granted, we had like 3 lower cabinets before the remodel) but there are enough unsafe or messy things in the cabinets that it didn’t feel safe enough to expect him to stop when we said no.
