Merry Christmas {2016}!

Merry Merry Christmas!

{our Christmas card via Minted, photos by The Happy Film Company}

I have heard a lot on the interwebs about Minted, but never perused the selection of cards until this year. There are lots of different card printing companies but I loved that Minted included address printing (on the envelopes) as part of the deal. I enjoyed hand-lettering Christmas card envelopes in the past, but I just don’t see that happening for the  foreseeable future! (Ahh, life before kids!) And this is the exact card design if you are interested, plus I added the infographic on the back.

We are in Seattle again this year spending Christmas at home. We had such a fun time last year celebrating the holiday here with Eloise and not feeling like we were hustling and bustling for our entire Christmas vacation! Plus, since I am almost 32 weeks, we figured it was easier just to stay at home.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and holiday!

Merry Christmas from the Lowers!

#LowerChristmas2016

Merry Christmas Eve! I just wanted to pop-in to share a few photos of our Christmas celebration shenanigans this year.

{We went to WildLights again at the Zoo this year and it was so fun! Eloise was much more into the lights this year though she was disappointed that we couldn’t see any animals, especially the tigers!}

{I LOVE photos in front of Christmas trees and was so excited when I knew this bump would be around for Christmastime this year!}

{And before we decorated the tree, Eloise played in all of the lights!}

{If you know me, you may know that one of my mama dreams was to have matching family Christmas jammies! Seriously. And I am so lucky that Aaron is such a good sport about it. Plus, Eloise is at the age that she LOVES to match mama – can this last forever?}

SONY DSCSONY DSC

{And finally, I wanted to share our new fireplace that Aaron has been building! I know he wants to do a more in-depth post about the actual design and building process, but I wanted to share our Christmas mantle this year. We haven’t had a mantle since we lived in our old townhouse, so I have been dying to have one to decorate and hang stockings from. I don’t love TVs mounted above fireplaces and in an ideal world we wouldn’t either, but it didn’t make sense to change the entire layout of the living room at this point. So Aaron built the fireplace to house all of our electronic equipment (all of the front panels open up) which is so fun.}

We hope you have a very Merry Christmas and joyous holiday season!

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday! I wanted to pop-in one last time to share some of what I am loving this week, and then will be back in the New Year!

{one} Burberry Wool Trench Coat.

{via Burberry}

Burberry is such an iconic brand and one that you could wear for a lifetime! I am loving this wool trench coat which is so chic plus it will keep you warm without all of that puffiness! Plus it’s on sale… Don’t mind me swooning over here!

{two} Oh Joy! Pinecone Pom Table Setting.

{via Oh Joy! blog}

I love a good table setting and this one that Oh Joy blogged about last week has such a sweet touch of whimsy. If I didn’t already have my table settings planned for Christmas, I would definitely be doing this. And I love that it is festive without screaming Christmas! Stripes, pom poms, and gold flatware is right up my alley!

{three} Pure Barre on New Day NW.

Image may contain: 4 people, people smiling, people sitting

As most of you know, I am sort of a Pure Barre nut. It is my go-to workout and I think everyone would benefit from it! I have been able to continue to do it thru both of my pregnancies and know that it helped me “bounce back” when I was post-partum with Eloise. And while none of my Pure Barre soapbox speeches are sponsored, I do have an “in” since I have known the owners of the local studios (six!) since I was little (think middle school). It has been so amazing to see Sami and Brandon be so successful with Pure Barre in Seattle, so I couldn’t say no when Sami asked me last week to join her on our local news network for a TV spot. We filmed on Wednesday morning and it was super fun (especially since I didn’t have to talk!). If you are interested in seeing the clip, here’s the link!

What are you loving this week?

M

P.S. I have a few more posts scheduled thru the weekend to share about Christmas, but will be taking most of next week off. Have a great end of the week and holiday weekend!

Pinterest Christmas {2016}: Teachers’ Presents.

Welcome back to week three of Pinterest Christmas! {See week one here and week two here.}

PC_Mug Banner.jpg

This is the first year Eloise has had teachers and I wanted to be sure to do something special for them for the holiday since they are so wonderful. There are so, so many ideas on Pinterest (to the point of being overwhelming!) but I managed to find one that was super simple and fit with E’s teachers’ styles. I made the original DIY project even simpler by buying mugs that already had initials rather than painting a plain white mug.

{original Pinterest link – Earnest Home Co. blog}

While I really liked the look of Anthro’s Gold Initial Mug, it really isn’t the style of Eloise’s teachers (who lean towards the hippy side!). So I found these beautiful Petal Palette Mugs instead which were perfect!

I found burlap at Jo-Ann’s (I used less than a quarter of a yard), small organic rosemary plants at Trader Joe’s, and small plastic cups in our party supply stash – easy peasy!

SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC

I love that these gifts will last for some time – E’s teachers drink lots of tea and rosemary is super hardy, even I have trouble killing it! – plus they were super easy to put together. And, my kitchen smelled amazing after having re-potted that rosemary; the move from one pot to the cup must of activated the leaves or something!

Once I had everything in the mug, I placed them in Christmas-y paper bags and taped our family Christmas card to the front. Eloise was so excited to take them to school to her teachers last week!

And be sure to check out what Kendra’s up to all December long over on The Gilbertson Family! {Here’s her first Pinterest Christmas post!}

Do you make or buy teachers’ gifts for you kiddos for the holidays?

Pinterest Christmas {2016}: Toddler Ornaments.

Welcome back to week two of Pinterest Christmas! {See last week’s post here.}

Sidenote: Sorry guys, this post was supposed to go up last week and I apparently never posted it!

SONY DSC

Eloise does a lot of art projects at school, comes home covered in paint, and then we hang all of her creations on the front living room window. I love that she is doing art at school because it is one activity that this type-A mama can have trouble doing at home. But, I thought it would be fun to make a few simple Christmas ornaments for the tree this year with Eloise.

Cute button tree ornament for the kids to make

{original Pinterest link – Hands On As We Grow blog}

pom pom christmas tree craft

{original Pinterest link – Happy Hooligans blog}

I knew that I needed to keep things simple, so I kept the supply list short: felt, ribbon, buttons, pom poms, popcicle sticks, and glue.

I cut out the Christmas trees and wreaths out of felt and then had Eloise point to where she wanted to put either a button or a pom pom. Then I put a big drop of glue and she placed the button or pom pom down. It worked pretty well, although Eloise was much more interested in holding (and squeezing!) the bottle of glue… anyone know of toddler-friendly glue?

SONY DSC

By the time we were done decorating the trees and wreaths, Eloise had pretty much lost interest since I wouldn’t let her handle the glue, so the triangle popcicle stick ornaments are pretty bare. For those I just glued three sticks together on the ends to form a triangle and had Eloise place the pom poms. Once all of the ornaments were dry (overnight), I had Eloise pick out the ribbon color and I strung each ornament onto a piece of ribbon. She was excited to hang all of the ornaments on the tree which made all of it worth it!

SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC

This was definitely a super-easy toddler craft and I am really glad we did it.

And be sure to check out what Kendra’s up to all December long over on The Gilbertson Family! {Here’s her first Pinterest Christmas post!}

{Eloise and I made Christmas treats for our neighbors on Friday afternoon. We always give them our Christmas card in-person (usually Aaron and Eloise go out around the neighborhood one evening) and I thought it would be fun to add some sweet treats. We made this Christmas Chex Mix and this Pre-School Fudge. If I get my act together, I will share pictures of the final results!}

{Santa came a little early this year and left a new-to-us red car in the driveway! Just kidding, we sat at the car dealership all morning on Saturday. We are turning in our VW Golf Wagen in a few weeks (after the TDI scandal) and needed a replacement. I never thought we would have an SUV, but with Baby Foot’s impending arrival, it seemed like a good fit for us!}

20161218_042426746_ios

{We went to our friends’ annual Bite Party on Saturday night where everyone brings an appetizer or dessert to share and then everyone votes on the best. We made this Dark Chocolate Tart with Sea Salt and it was pretty good! Note: if you like super sweet desserts, this is not for you.}

20161218_072811269_ios

{We finally got our new fireplace done and it is all decorated for the holiday! The final piece was adding logs and lights to the firebox (eventually we may add an electric insert). I will be sure to share more pictures soon since it is so beautiful all decorated and Aaron did an amazing job!}

{I finally have a shelf – thanks Baby Foot! Enjoying a pre-barre bowl of cereal nearly hands-free. Sidenote: did any other mamas lose their appetites during the third trimester?}

20161219_013759272_ios

{Weekly pizza night and Eloise is always eager to help roll out the dough. Aaron always lets her make her own pizza and it is the cutest.}

What a fun weekend we had! It is still super cold here (by PNW standards) and barely getting to 40 degrees most days but we are staying as warm as we can; it is this time of year we are so thankful for our radiant heated floors! Eloise seems to have picked up a cold which progressed over the past two days and now I am feeling stuffy… fingers crossed we will kick this before Christmas!

We are looking forward to a fun week before settling in for the holiday weekend! I can’t believe Christmas is just a week away!

How was your weekend?

M

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday! Can you believe how fast this week went? And just 9 days until Christmas!

But since shortly after Christmas Baby Foot is due, I thought I would do a special Mama-to-Be Round Up for this week’s post. Here are some things that would be great for any expecting mamas, and I may or may not need want some all of the following:

{one} Dwell and Slumber dress.

Cozy Olive

{via Dwell and Slumber}

As is true with more and more “maternity” clothing lines, Dwell and Slumber is a company that sells dresses you can wear before, during, and after pregnancy. When I first started hearing about this, I thought it was crazy. Even the lady at a maternity store told me that was the goal (as she was trying to sell me full-panel maternity jeans!) and generally I am not a fan. Pretty much anything that will accommodate my growing bump will not fit me post-partum. But, there are a few pieces that I think could, and I think these dresses from Dwell and Slumber are one of them (the other being a few pieces from the Hatch Collection, though I think some of the pieces from this line are just too baggy!). I love the drape of these dresses and the dolman sleeves, they are nursing friendly with the Henley-like button-up front, and they would look cute belted to help rein in some of that extra fabric! I have my eye on that olive one, plus basically all of the grey ones…

{two} Plum Pretty Sugar Robe.

Sweetheart Robe. Lovebug.

{via Plum Pretty Sugar}

When I had Eloise I brought my own hospital gown to change into once we headed into the post-partum/recovery room and while I will do that again I do also plan on bringing my own robe. Robes are awesome for growing bumps but also for nursing. And I am loving these beautiful robes from Plum Pretty Sugar, especially this soft grey one (it’s called Lovebug!). Something nice to wear at the end of your pregnancy and also equally nice to have those first pictures taken in at the hospital!

{three} Logan and Lenora wet bags.

Simple Clutch

{via Logan and Lenora}

I was first introduced to the idea of wet bags because we went the cloth diapering route with Eloise (and we will continue to do with Baby Foot!) but I am convinced that every mama-to-be needs at least a few wet bags in her stash. They are amazing for anything and everything – wet swimsuits, blowouts, extra storage. I still use a small one in my purse to carry a change of clothes for Eloise in case she has an accident.

But I am loving these fun wet bags from Logan and Lenora which is a recent find via Instagram. I am planning on streamlining my “diaper bag” this time around and having a pouch for me, one for Eloise, and one for Baby Foot to carry essentials, and I think these pouches/clutches might be perfect!

If you are interested, here is the list of my pregnancy essentials from my last pregnancy (with the exception of gummy pre-natal vitamins this time around!). Any current mamas have anything to add to the list?

And be sure to check out what Kendra is loving this week! What about you?

Eloise meets Santa {2016}

Per tradition, Eloise and I joined her friend Beatrice and her mama earlier this month to meet Santa downtown at Nordstrom. We loaded the girls into the car and headed down in the morning with Starbucks in hand hoping to beat the rush. The line wasn’t awful this year and it took just over an hour.

As we got closer to the front of the line and Santa came into view, Eloise was super interested in seeing the other kids sit on his lap and ask him for what they wanted for Christmas. I was hopeful but since Eloise had already told me that she didn’t want to sit on Santa’s lap, I knew I wasn’t going to push her.

And by the time we got up to Santa, she was clinging to me like a baby monkey. Her friend Beatrice went first, but ended up in tears which made more Eloise upset. Somehow though I managed to get Eloise on a rocking horse and the photographer distracted her enough to move her back towards Santa and actually get a smile! And Eloise asked me to tell Santa what she wanted, so I made sure he got her list: 2 monkeys, a pickle, and a giraffe. Seriously. She talked about it the entire week before we went to see him!

dta_3597

Maybe someday Eloise won’t be terrified of Santa? But then she also has been talking about Santa ever since she saw him… it’s a little confusing. And she kept asking where he parked! I told her the only place the sleigh and his reindeer would fit was on Nordstrom’s roof.

At what age did your kiddos get excited about seeing Santa?

M

And see Eloise with Santa for the past two years: 2015 & 2014.

{Eloise and I crafted on Friday afternoon and I am planning on sharing this week for Pinterest Christmas!}

{Our own Cindy-Lou Who! Eloise’s hair is getting so, so long, and I thought maybe we could get it cut (the first one!) later this month, but when I asked her about it the other day she said “no thanks.”}

20161211_044707234_ios

{Aaron has been working so, so hard on this fireplace project – did I ever share that he is building a fireplace in our living room? – and he promised to get it done in time for Christmas. So we spent a lot of the weekend priming and painting so that I can decorate my new mantle!}

20161211_190433763_ios

{We brunched with the Andersons this morning at an old favorite, Portage Bay Café, and Eloise has gotten pretty good at using a fork. Even though the restaurant was a little crazy busy, it was great to catch up with friends!}

20161211_204710062_ios

{And Eloise was being super silly this afternoon… she has a pretty good sense of humor these days!}

Sorry for the lack of exciting pictures. After the excitement of the snow on Friday, it was pretty rainy and yucky outside which wasn’t very inspiring. We laid pretty low and got some things done around the house – good for us but didn’t make for great photo opportunities! I absolutely cannot believe that we are two weeks away from Christmas – I have so much left to do!

How was your weekend?

M

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday!

{one} Aveda Candrima Body Lotion.

Candrimā™ Body Moisturizer

{via Aveda}

When I saw my hairdresser a few weeks ago, he handed me an Aveda “care package” on my way out, and it included this body lotion. Normally I am anti-fragrance since I have really sensitive skin and especially when I am pregnant, but this lotion’s fragrance is amazing! It’s like Aveda but Christmas-y!

{two} Farmgirl Flowers Holiday Bouquet.

capture

{via Farmgirl Flowers}

Fresh flowers have become such a treat these days! Plus, learning floral arrangement is high on my list for things I want to learn next. I follow the Farmgirl Flowers feeds on Instagram and Facebook just to see the beautiful arrangements! This holiday one is definitely inspiring my Christmas table this year!

{three} Free Shipping at The Petite Flag Shop.

A little self-promotion, but I am offering free shipping on all orders between now and Christmas at The Petite Flag Shop! There is a small Christmas collection available, including all of the above-pictured flags, plus the full range of flags available and custom orders! Use the code MERRYSHIP.

And be sure to check out what Kendra is loving this week! What about you?
