This was our first weekend of just the four of us and it was much slower than we are used to, but perfect in it’s own way. We were able to see a few friends with a PEPS play date on Saturday morning and two weekend dinners brought over – thanks Leslie and Nancy! – and also get into a new routine which included a much-needed nap this afternoon (for me)!

project baby #2 {it’s a girl!}

As some of you know from calls, texts, Instagram, or Facebook, Baby Foot arrived on Wednesday, one week past my due date!

We are so thrilled to announce the newest member of our family:

Daphne Lucille Lower

We are home now and doing well, and all pretty smitten with Baby Daphne. I will be back soon with all of our updates!

Welcome to the world Daphne!

Well, it was a nice long weekend, and even though it rained thru much of it, we still thoroughly enjoyed it! We didn’t have a lot of plans since I didn’t know whether I would be going into labor or not, so we sort of just laid low and hung out, getting a few last minute things done. It sort of felt like a final weekend for me: last Pure Barre class, last dinner out just the three of us, last bedtime with just Eloise… I have a sneaky feeling this baby is coming soon!

How was your long weekend?

M

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday!

{one} Anthro Knotted Hair Ties.

anthro

{via Anthropologie}

Even with much shorter hair than I have had for years, I always keep a hair-tie on my wrist because it will inevitably end up in a ponytail or bun at some point during the day. While I like the thicker fabric ones – that aren’t supposed to leave creases but they totally do! – like these Emi-Jay ones, they don’t really hold my hair well unless I have two or three of them… So I was excited to see these knotted hair-ties when I was perusing around Anthro the other day. They hold up my hair with a single tie, plus they are cuter around my wrist than a normal hair-tie – score!

{two} NPR’s How I Built This podcast: Kate and Andy Spade.

Kate Spade: Kate & Andy Spade

{via NPR}

I know podcasts are all the rage these days and I have enjoyed all of them that I have ever listened to, but I still haven’t gotten on board as a regular listener (sort of like reading novels… law school ruined me!). But Aaron is super into podcasts as he listens to them on his commute each day. He recently shared this podcast about Kate and Andy Spade, creators of kate spade new york, and I LOVED it! It was the perfect thing to listen to while I was working on a last-minute project for Baby Foot’s nursery and I am looking forward to listening to a few of the other podcasts in the series!

{three} Birthday Love.

{Birthday/Valentine’s Day date night with my love at Serafina // blowing out the candles with Eloise}

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all of the birthday love this week. I got so many sweet text messages, phone calls, and Facebook posts that really made my day. My birthday has always been a really special part of the year for me and this year did not disappoint! And while, of course, I would have been more than happy to welcome Baby Foot on this day, I am very grateful that I don’t share a birthday with my child! I was spoiled by friends & family all weekend going into my birthday and into the 14th: a fresh bouquet of flowers, date night at my very favorite restaurant, a handmade watercolor heart from my favorite pre-schooler, a load of presents, and a much-needed mani/pedi!

Also, I wanted to add that this is going to be my last Friday I’m In Love post (or any blog post for that matter depending on baby’s timing!) for a while. We are hoping to be snuggling a brand-new Baby Foot by this time next week (which I promise we will share as soon as there is news either here, via email/text/phone, or via Instagram or Facebook) and then I am likely going to take a bit of a blog hiatus while we find our new normal! (Though I am planning on continuing to do weekly updates with Baby Foot – for the first 52 weeks! – just like we did with Eloise, though the first ones may not be posted in real time.)

And be sure to check out what Kendra is loving this week! What about you?

{An obligatory belly shot in the nursery. Pants, especially jeans, are the worst this past week or so. Just super uncomfortable. But I am mostly pretty good in these chambray joggers from the Gap – elastic waist and they feel like jammies! I can’t get myself to wear leggings outside the house or working out – leggings aren’t pants, IMHO! – so I will definitely be picking up some more joggers for early post-partum outings!}

{We were so excited to attend a celebration for Baby Steiner this evening! Hailey (middle) is due just one day before me, and Jess is due in April, so not too much longer! There are going to be so many babies! It was so fun to catch up with everyone and wear stripes  – haha! And thanks for the photo Jess!}

20170213_034125664_ios

{Amanda was so sweet and made Eloise this cape for Christmas and a special “big sister” bag for Valentine’s Day! I think I caught Eloise mid-sass!}

This weekend felt like it flew by, but it was so, so pretty this afternoon that I am mostly okay with it. 50 degrees and the sun was out – magical I tell you! Seattle, could you make every day between now and summer like this, with any and all rain showers or clouds limited to overnight?

We got a few last-minute things done that were sort of lingering, and I am feeling really good going into this week. It’s a super special week with a deep cleaning of our house, a mani/pedi for Mama, birthday and Valentine’s Day celebrations – hooray! So much to look forward to!

eloise {thirty months // two & a half years}

SONY DSC

{lion: jellycat via Nordstrom // tee: Old Navy // leggings: Cat & Jack for Target (similar here and here) // bow: Hadley Girl (similar)}

{month thirty} Holy two-and-a-half years! I cannot believe we are even here. Seriously. I know Eloise hasn’t been a baby for a long time, but my mind cannot comprehend that she was born two-and-a-half years ago! I digress… here’s a recap of the last three months:

Eloise still loves Hide and Seek (see the hilarious video of her here if you missed it!) even though she can’t contain her excitement to stay hidden long enough to be found. She also really loves playing Peek-a-Boo these days, either with her hands or a blanket.

There is lots of singing during the day and Eloise almost always insists on music being played while we are in the car or in the house if we are hanging out in the kitchen. She sings a lot at school too, but is always singing to herself during her play time or even before she falls asleep. She is really into changing the lyrics of songs too, or mashing them together (two or three songs become one!) which really surprises me. She is really understanding the words of songs which is super cool. Her favorite personal renditions are: “We all live in a PURPLE submarine!” and “Grammie Had A Little Lamb.”

Eloise is also really grasping shapes these days and comments frequently about seeing different shapes in her food. She also is amazing at recognizing letters in books, letters, or out-and-about; she can tell you if something is a letter (versus a number or a symbol) but really can identify: E M P R G S and L. (Not a coincidence that most of those letters are in her name, or other people’s names – like Mama, Papa, Grammie.)

Something else I have noticed recently – which I think is also from school – is that Eloise will tell us that things are “similar” or “different.” And this can be anything – colors, dogs on the street, fruits or vegetables, a character in a book.

Eloise, much like her mama, is pretty Type-A already and is already has a fondness for lists! She likes to count things on her fingers, but also list things (or events) on her fingers; like “one – Eloise go to school, two – stories with Mama, then – naptime, then – Papa comes home.” And she makes this great face while she is thinking of things that I have been trying to capture in either photo or video! She sort of wrinkles up half of her face, it’s the cutest!

The past few months Eloise and I were enrolled in a Mama and Me dance class at a local dance studio. One of our PEPS friends told us about it since it was a free 9 week class session (normally classes are about $20 per class – yikes!) and so we joined on Friday mornings with our PEPS friends. The class was pretty structured in that we did the same basic things and songs every single time; a little repetitive for the mamas but great for the toddlers. Eloise mostly participated, though sometimes wanted to just be on my lap or have me hold her, but still sings all of the songs when we are at home. She is too young still for any real dance or gymnastics class (especially without me being involved too) but seems to really enjoy the classes that we have been able to take here and there. I am hoping once Baby Foot is a little older, I can figure out a good dance or gymnastics program for Eloise to enroll in.

Eloise’s bi-annual visit to the dentist was in December and she was awesome! Aaron was able to come with us and I think that helped. The office is super kid-friendly (it is only a peds dentist) with toys and prizes and TVs on the ceiling. She really hasn’t been into the TVs at all, but still did really well. She got a clean bill of health, and the dental hygienist was so sweet and gave her a big prize for giving up her pacifiers! I picked out the Daniel Tiger figures for her as the big prize since she has been really into the show recently (she watches an episode about three or four times a week). And then twice a day we brush our teeth and Eloise is really good about it. She still chews on the toothbrush more than we like, but does let us help her at the end (thanks to the Dentist who told her she needed to let Mama and Papa help).

And as if she wasn’t cute enough, Eloise started saying “I need you” if she wants you to stay, like at naptime or bedtime. We do our best to let her fall asleep on her own, but she always wants one more story, or song, or cuddle, and when you get up to leave, she will say “I need you!” and it breaks your heart a little. Or if we are busy doing something and she needs your attention, you will tell her “Okay, give me 2 minutes,” and she will say “Mama, I need you!”

Because a lot of things are changing, mostly that Baby Foot is going to be here before we know it!, Eloise has been very in-tune with being a “big kid.” Before I was a parent, I thought the whole “big kid” thing was sort of weird, almost belittling to toddlers and young kids. But I totally get it now. Eloise is all about being a big kid and we can see the way it changes her behavior or makes something more interesting. And she almost always wants to be a big kid! On the flip-side though, she has also learned that she is “too little” for some things too. Mostly it is a height thing where she wants to do something and she is “too little” to reach it. Or she also has been pretending that she is a baby, and then she is “too little” to do anything!

Along with using a real plate and utensils at mealtime (no plastic stuff around here!), Eloise has been using a real glass for milk at mealtime. We still use a sippy cup and of course her water bottles with the straw, but especially at lunch or dinner time when we are at the table eating all together, she drinks out of a real cup. I picked up these tempered glass ones which are a great size for her. Plus I can stick them in the dishwasher, which I won’t do with any of her plastic sippy cups or water bottles!

As you know from my weekend posts and other updates, we were in the process of getting Eloise’s big kid room ready to go. I wanted to move her with ample time before the baby came, just in case we had any big issues with her not wanting to move, so we moved her just after the holidays. She was already in a toddler bed (her converted crib) and was doing really well in it, so transitioning to the big kid bed (a twin) was a little easier. We tried the transition at a naptime which may not have been the best, and she ended up taking two hours to go to sleep AND ended up back in her crib (!) but after that, we haven’t had any issues with her. She sleeps well in her new bed and even though it is low to the ground, we keep a pillow on the edge and she has yet to roll out! At first she didn’t get out of bed without Aaron or I in the room (which is how she was in her converted crib), but now we will see her on the monitor get out of bed to look at her books or try to find her monitor on the top of the dresser or other toddler shenanigans. It is mostly harmless and the funniest thing is that she knows she isn’t supposed to get out of bed because if she hears you coming down the stairs, she will scamper back to bed and lie down! But, it is a balance because if you get downstairs and she thinks she is in trouble (for being out of bed) she will cry and cry (this kid is like her Mama and does not like to be in trouble!). But the entire transition from the nursery to her new room went really smoothly. She still likes to play in the nursery and we still use the changing table twice a day, but she is really happy in her new space!

And unlike most toddlers we know, Eloise loves the Ergo! Since I can’t wear it right now, it is a special treat for Eloise and Papa to get a chance to snuggle together. She asks for it all the time and is always really excited when Papa goes on an adventure with her and they get to use it, like when he took her to school the other day and they took the bus! She talked about it all day long. It is the sweetest.

And finally, Eloise loves (LOVES) temporary tattoos – as you can see on her hand in this month’s photo) and hand stamps. Her tattoo obsession started in the early fall and she pretty much likes to have a tattoo on one of her hands all the time. I try not to let her have one all the time and make it a special treat for her. But she also loves stamps on her hands and really does have them on all the time between getting one at school twice per week (including on her belly!) and then one at library story time (and also at dance class when we were going).

Here are some photos to share from the past quarter that you may or may not have seen already!

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday! And Happy Half-Birthday to our sweet Eloise! I am hoping to have her quarterly update up soon.

{one} Playroom by Emily Henderson.

A Playful and Bright Playroom Introduction:

{via Style by Emily Henderson blog}

Oh Emily Henderson, how I love thee! She just revealed a sneak peek of the most adorable playroom this week and I am most definitely in love. I appreciate the mix of high and low-end décor (a lot of it is from Target’s Pillowfort Collection!) and effort to make it a nicely designed space that doesn’t scream pre-school. (That is pretty much my gripe with “playrooms” generally – way too many primary colors and plastic-y stuff!) Some day in the coming years (really, maybe just a few) we plan on bunking the kids together in one room and freeing up one of the bedrooms to turn into a playroom, and I pretty much want it to look like this one!

{two} Mexican Corn Dip.

Mexican Corn Dip - The traditional Mexican street corn is turned into the best dip ever. It's so good, you won't even need the chips here!

{via Damn Delicious}

Every week, pretty much without fail, we have Taco Tuesday. It is nice to have one easy, predictable meal every week and every member of our family loves Mexican food! We roast yams, heat up refried beans (I love Amy’s refried black beans!), warm up tortillas, slice avocado, and shred cheese. And in the past month or so, we have also added this Mexican Corn dip to the mix and I think it’s safe to say it is a keeper. You can add it to tacos or eat it with chips as a dip (or even on its own, its that good!). I have been using frozen corn since we are definitely not in corn season, but I can imagine it would be SO much better with  corn on the cob fresh off the grill. We also have been mixing up the type of cheese that we use (both feta and goat milk gouda) and it has been super yummy!

{three} Sonnet James Valentine’s Day Sale!

LIV - COBALT

{via Sonnet James}

If you have been following along for a while, you know I have a professed love for all things Sonnet James. These are the BEST dresses, especially for mamas with littles. I definitely don’t need anymore especially since I got a few for Christmas this year, though that doesn’t keep me from shopping! I love, love these dresses during pregnancy, and hope to wear a few of the styles post-partum (nursing friendly neckline is the key), and they are wonderful for late spring and summer in Seattle. Just throw it on with a pair of sandals or sneakers and you are out the door! Plus, a few of the styles are on sale, so go check it out!

Have a happy Valentine’s Day weekend and I hope you celebrate all weekend (and week) long!

And be sure to check out what Kendra is loving this week! What about you?

I really wanted to try a milkshake (since I just discovered that was an offering!) but since the store is undergoing some construction, there is the ice cream truck instead… so, no milkshake. But, I did get a pint which mostly hit the spot!}

{Post-nap (well, the nap that never happened…) we headed to a friend’s house for the Super Bowl. It was a little scary walking into a “Pat’s Nation” party, but everything turned out pretty well. I wanted to see the Falcons win, but at least it was a decent game (except for OT – why can’t the NFL play college OT rules? Such a bummer that the Falcons didn’t even get a chance in OT).}

20170206_034936268_ios

{Eloise got a balloon from the party and she was in heaven. It was cold and rainy all day, so she was happy in her rain boots and rain jacket. When did she get so big?}

This weekend went so fast! Probably because I had a huge to-do list (poor Aaron!) that we actually got almost all the way thru. I am determined to get all of the things done before this baby comes, so it is no down-time around the Lower house these days! But, we had some fun seeing friends and having family time too.

How was your weekend?

M

friday I’m in love.

Welcome back Friday and Happy February (only the BEST month ever)!

{one} Valentine’s Day Mani.

The sweetest heart manicure for V-Day:

{via Lauren Conrad}

I am loving this simple Valentine’s inspired manicure – simple but so festive! – and it makes me excited about getting my last-minute mani in a few weeks before this baby is born, even though it won’t include the hearts. Maybe I will have to try this DIY next week!

{two} Anthro Dress Sale.

{via Anthropologie}

Not sure if it’s because the groundhog saw his shadow and 6 more weeks of winter was proclaimed, but I am so ready for spring already! Even though we’ve had lots of sun recently (which I am loving) it has been super cold. I can’t wait to just throw on a dress and a pair of sneakers or sandals, and Anthro is tempting me with a dress sale this week! And it’s probably best for my wallet that I am limited to dresses that are nursing friendly…it is crazy to think about not having to dress the bump anymore! I saw this shirtdress in the store and it’s at the top of my list! (And am also loving this pink one and this mint green one – neither, sadly, are nursing friendly.)

{three} Eucalyptus.

Chamallow:

{via Chamallow}

If you follow me on Pinterest at all, you may have noticed that I have been pinning a ton on my BLOOMS board. It is probably because I am holding out for flower season – c’mon spring! But, what I have been really loving is actually eucalyptus which is so pretty on its own. It has been hit-and-miss for me finding it locally, though our grocery store has a decent floral department and usually has some type of eucalyptus in stock, though not usually the silver dollar (my fav!). And I am really loving the mix of the two types above in just a simple container. Putting that on my to-do list!

And be sure to check out what Kendra is loving this week! What about you?

{We visited Papa at work on Friday in his new office. Eloise approved and really liked his badge holder!}

{We had a family dinner at the Sadliers – a super fun tradition now – and we finally wrangled the kids into jammies for story time.}

{More baby prepping means baby gear is starting to make an appearance. Eloise is obsessed with the infant car seat!}

{And the moment of truth came Saturday when we installed the infant car seat in the car. We have a slight issue with Aaron needing the seat back further than the car seat will allow… so, we can either put Eloise behind the driver’s seat and turn her forward-facing – which I really am not ready for! – or get her a slimmer car seat… Hopefully we have a few weeks to figure it out!}

{Testing out my Solly Baby Wrap with one of Baby Foot’s stuffed animals and really love it! I like that it is adjustable so Aaron can wear it too if he wants. My mama got me the Rifle Paper Co. print and it is so, so beautiful!}

{I wanted to make sure to get a picture of Eloise in her new tunic that my sister-in-law knit for her for Christmas – it is so gorgeous! And Eloise looks like she is ready to start kindergarten… where did our baby go?}

{We discovered that Baby Stella fits into our newborn diapers. Eloise has been obsessed with changing her diaper recently.}

{Nesting is in full effect around the Lower house and I finally got a chance to clean the fridge!}

I have purposefully not made plans for these past few weekends because my to-do list(s) are so long still and I am liking just lying-low. But, we got so much done including getting art up on Eloise’s new room and scheduling a deep house clean (YES)!

How was your weekend?
