{month twenty-two} It came as quite a shock when I got a reminder to do a monthly photoshoot & blog post for Eloise’s twenty-two month birthday this weekend while I was in Bend! I swear I just did her twenty-one month post! Luckily, Aaron was able to get her to sit still for one or two shots for this month.

The single funniest thing that Eloise has ever done started happening a few weeks ago. One day while Aaron was changing a poopy diaper, Eloise started yelling “Misha! Misha! Misha!” which is exactly what Aaron yells when he is changing a diaper and needs help. Well, apparently Eloise thinks it means “help” so she yells it whenever one of us is changing a poopy diaper or if she really needs help with something & I am not close by!

Recently before both naptime & bedtime, Eloise wants to cuddle (or “cuckle” as she says) in the chair before being placed into her crib. Normally this is a quiet time after stories are read where the sound machine is on & the lights are off that we can snuggle before she goes to sleep. She also gets her paci before she gets into her crib which is probably why she loves it so much! And of course when cuddle time is over & it is sleeping time, she always tells me “sit” which means she wants me to sit back down in the rocker rather than putting her down in her crib. Generally I can tell her it is cuddle time with Leo the Lion, Louise her doll, or her lovie (all who sleep with her) and she won’t fuss when I leave the room. It has become one of my favorite parts of the day.

I have noticed recently that Eloise is much more interested in her baby dolls (she has three). She not only likes to carry them around & push them in her shopping cart, but also pretend to change their diapers, give them a bath, & feed them. It is pretty sweet!

Eloise is still a huge book lover & will spend a lot of the day reading to herself, flipping thru books. She does still love to have books read to her as well & also really loves to hear the same book over & over, though I have been reading the repetition of a story & the pictures is actually really good for toddlers even though it gets old really fast for parents! We have been continuing the weekly library storytime & she has learned all of the songs & loves the books! She likes to stand up while she hears the stories & is obsessed with the stamp the librarian will give her after storytime is over; the entire time we are at the library she points to her hand & exclaims “stamp stamp stamp!”

I had started counting to ten with Eloise a while back, but recently Aaron has really been doing a lot of counting with her. They count to ten in English, Spanish, French, & Japanese which is so, so great! Neither of us are fluent in any other languages, but we are committed to having at least bilingual children! These days, you can often hear Eloise counting (or reciting numbers) as she plays in all four languages. And when you count with her, she is counting right along without much prompting!

And, as with last month, she is talking so much! She is just starting to string more than one word together (though not too much yet) which I know is right around the corner. She is picking up so many new words all the time & I am always surprised when she uses them in the right context! She can hear a word one time & remember it weeks later. Everything she sees she points out & says which makes our day seem like a constant game of “I Spy”! I was even amazed how much more she seemed like she was talking after being away from her just this past long weekend!

And lastly because a lot of people have been asking, potty training is right around the corner as well. There are an overwhelming amount of books, pamphlets, & Pinterest articles that I have scanned, but I picked “Oh Crap! Potty Training” to be my guide for this next big step. After realizing there are so many resources out there & being really overwhelmed with choices, I decided I needed to pick just one method & stick to it. I am planning on starting towards the end of the summer when we don’t have any vacation or travelling or really anything planned. Beyond this quick update, I am going to wait to give any updates until after she is well trained. As much as I value all of your opinions, this is one area where I am sticking with my own instincts & can’t worry about what everyone else would or did do! So wish us luck & see you on the flip side!
